How is G4's leather back? Does it easily wears off?
>>
I'm due for an upgrade. Done with Samsung phones, unless someone can really sell me on an s7. I'm stuck between a Nexus 5X and a LG G5.

Pick my next phone for me, /g/.
>>
>>53792979
I'm not sure, but I'd be much more worried that your phone will spontaneously bootloop if you're buying a G4. I believe I've heard that the leather ages gracefully and gets a bit of character, but I am not sure if this is true.

Should I get my mom a cheap Windows phone or upgrade mine and give her Moto G 2nd gen I'm using nowadays?

She only uses skype/whatsapp and shit like that.

I'm only concerned about the 1GB RAM of Windows phones, she doesn't really know or understand how to close apps properly.

Also I'm looking to upgrade to a LG G3, any experience with the phone?
>>
>>53793613
Windows phone is really terrible, don't do that to your mom.

Microsoft has even said that Windows phone isn't a priority for them this year.

As for closing apps, no worries, Windows phone can't really multitask and tombstones apps as soon as you switch from them, resulting in constant "Resuming..." screens when switching apps.

Your mom probably uses more apps than you think. Browser? IE is shit. Alarm app? It's buggy on WP and people report missing work/school because the alarm doesn't go off. The list goes on and on, either the app doesn't exist or it is shitty compared to iOS/Android versions.

tl;dr give your mom the moto G and upgrade, I can't recommend Windows phone to anyone, and I have had two Windows phones.
>>
>>53793229
5X and G5 are really two different classes of phones. 5X is affordable off a contract, whereas the G5 is much more expensive (almost twice as much). The Nexus has quick updates and guaranteed developer support even after the updates from Google cease. The G5 has (potentially gimmicky) expansion modules, and an SD card slot, better SoC and more RAM.

Personally I went for the 5X, I'd be wary of LG phones that don't have Google's quality control & warranty behind them, due to the bootloop issue on the G4.

>>53793305
>relying on exploits to get root

don't do this. Xiaomi phones (at least the mi4c) have official TWRP available and you can get root easily by flashing SuperSU from recovery

That's still so expensive. One more question, is there any legitimate reason they charge access fees on top of the plan? Or is that basically like project Fi where you pay a set amount for calls/texts then data is separate

I don't know what project Fi is, but it's kind of that idea. The line access fee is just the charge to have a device connected to the service each month

the charge just to have it on the service each month.

the amount of mobile data you need

I have a dumb phone. Thinking about the Cat S60 as my first smart phone. I have a (12 year old) thermal imager; it's occasionally useful, always fun, but I hardly NEED one day to day. Can I beat this for $600? CPU/GPU aren't super important to me, I don't do anything heavy, just little menu-centric games, but I care about the water/drop resistance, battery life, storage, RAM, and SD slot.

I haven't used it but I have been on both Sprint and T-Mobile networks in the past year. Basically Sprint is good coverage, slow speed, and T-Mobile is the opposite. The downside to Fi that I've heard is WiFi call quality, but you can disable WiFi calling.

It can also get expensive if you use tons of data. Some people swear by the T-Mobile $30 5GB plan. Fi should be fine if you usually use WiFi and don't go too crazy with data.

I do like that it switches between the two networks to cover for their weaknesses. It's month to month so it's worth a shot.

Moto G 2014 owner here. I like my phone, I like android. I don't like that it's slow sometimes and I don't like Android because it's slow. Should I a) switch to iphone 5 se because it's cheap (haha) and fast (the screen is too small though), iphone 6s because it's perfect but waaaay to expensive, I have money... orrrr.... c0 nexus 5x because it's almost perfect and very cheap at the moment (€300 32gb, cheap for euro standards poor me) or d) OTHER THANKYOUVERYMUCH
>>
>>53809174
Yes. The iPhone 7
>>
>>53809197
It's slow because you have 1GB RAM. Get a phone with 2GB before you make a final decision. Even the new Moto G has a 2GB version so you should give it a shot. Buy it from a place with a good return policy.
>>
>>53809267
If I pay €220 for a new Moto G I might as well get a nexus 5x for €300.
>>
>>53792979
I'm wondering the same. Especially stitches doesn't look high quality.
>>
>>53809306
Pretty much, the only thing the G has that the 5X doesn't is an SD card slot. But yeah definitely try a 2GB phone first before moving on.

Z3/Z5 Compact, the rumored S7 Mini
>>
>>53809008
The z5 looks like shit

s7 edge looks miles better and is just better in almost every way..

You're pulling something else out of your ass so fair enough.

So im looking to get a cheap unlocked smartphone and a 64gb micro sd to use as an iPod replacement. Does anyone have any experience with the company BLU. Their products seem cheap and what im looking for, i think

Other advice would be great too, ive always used ipods in the past
>>
>>53809875
Blu is decent
>>
>>53809875
I bought a Life One X this week and within 3 days the screen developed a huge dead zone. Also the Mediatek CPU is wonky and can't resume podcasts properly and it stutters all the time. Probably wouldn't want one for media playback.
>>
What brand, under $150 should I look up if Ijust want a stable phone that won't clog to a halt after just a year? My HTC can't start the damn dialer for a month or more, and I've heard of even newer ones (I have a hand down phone that's about 3+ years old) having the same priblem, so I just want something that just werks, everything else be damned.
>>
I preordered two G5's just two days ago. How badly did I fuck up?
>>
>>53801765
I'm thinking of the Galaxy S7 Edge. Is it a meme phone or is it actually good shit. Specs looks great and the VR gear seems cool even if it's a gimmick.
>>
>>53810236
Edge is a gimmick, the phone itself is one of the best on the market though
>>
>>53809174
Hands down the best value high end phone for that value but I don't like the size
>>
>>53810122
OnePlus X definitely, but go for the oneplus two if you have the extra 70 bucks
>>
Is there a way to make updates for apps install on an SD card on my android phone? I have tried moving the apps to the SD card and also set the SD card as the default write disk but the updates still seem to install on the phone's internal storage.

this isn't my own question, i'm asking for a friend
>>
>>53810236
Like >>53810748 said, Edge is a gimmick. Is there a reason not to just get the regular s7?

>fully charge 5x
>greenify all
>take one phone call
>check batt, its at 97%
>see this
Why the fuck is this phones battery shit
>>
>>53812169
It is an estimate based on your usage. Since you were on a voice call and it dropped 3% in that short period of time, it estimates you only have 4 hours left at the current pace.

Obviously you aren't going to be on that call for 4 hours, and even if you were it would stop draining so fast because the first few percentages go faster than the bottom half.

Nexus 5X battery is fine unless you load it up with Snapshit and Facebook and the like.

Snap and fb are literally the only things I use other than Clover.
I fucked myself with this phone.
>>
>>53809009
This is why I've practically ruled out the 5x. Also, no expandable storage, and 32GB is the largest config
>>
>>53812645
32GB is good unless you don't use streaming services and keep all your porn and videos saved for offline use.
I got free Spotify from my phone company so my ~32 has been a blessing compared to my Nexus 5 16gb. P much nothing takes up space unless you also hoard apps you'll never use.
>>
>>53808845
The z5 is a bit too expensive, runs skinned android, and has lofty battery claims from reviewers
>>
>>53802081
You could wait some time for the later G5 models. The G4 bootloop problem was fixed in later models, such as the one I am using as I type. You could either wait or buy one now and hope for the best
>>
>>53810157
Well it depends
>>
>>53812718
And get about 2 years of updates.

I read that it's metal with plastic paint to hide antenna bars on GSMArena

My brother just ordered a new phone and it will arrive the next week so i'll take his old HTC One X to replace my dumbphone. I want to know what would be the best things to do on this phone? Like, i'm already looking on XDA forums and instantly saw the Cyanogenmod 12.0 rom availble but i'm not sure if that's the best to flash on it or if i should do something else. All the advices are welcome! Also as the last question i'd like to know if i should just use my primary gmail account or if i should create a throwaway just for it. Thanks!

>>53804055
Damn shitty trip

Found my answer a few hours a go

Seems it was a possible a few updates ago due to a bug guess I'm out of luck
>>
I have the option of getting a Galaxy S6 or a Moto X. My iPhone 4S died last week and i think i'll give Android a spin.

Heard the S6 didn't have a card slot though...
>>
>>53799829
>I have a dumb phone. Thinking about the Cat S60 as my first smart phone. I have a (12 year old) thermal imager; it's occasionally useful, always fun, but I hardly NEED one day to day. Can I beat this for $600? CPU/GPU aren't super important to me, I don't do anything heavy, just little menu-centric games, but I care about the water/drop resistance, battery life, storage, RAM, and SD slot.
Didn't get an answer last night, figured I'd bump this up once.
