Is Chrome better than Firefox at handling many tabs?

I usually have like 50 tabs open at least, and Firefox always crashes. Is Chrome able to handle it better?

No. Chrome eats way more memory per tab.

Yes, Chrome handles it better. Firefox has all the tabs in 1 process and it lags the UI and the rest of the browser. Even in Nightly, which is "multi process" only separates the UI from the tabs, only 2 processes, so tabs still slow down other tabs if they're running JS or trying to render. BUT on Firefox you can organize them into tab groups and reduce the amount of tabs running at once, if you wanna do that

uses more RAM but the tabs are actually usable. Firefox will lag and lock up with too many tabs all running. I'm able to open up 25-50 tabs at a time in Chrome (for work, I use a multi-link opener to open a shitload of pages that I run userscripts on)

Yes. Chrome handles every tab as a separate process. If a tab crashes, only that tab crashes.

Firefox still hasn't figured out how to handle this, so when a tab crashes it still brings down the entire browser with it.

My firefox at my office has 3 windows and over 1100 tabs open and it's been stable for months though it's running on a pretty powerfull skylake processor with 16 GiB RAM plus SWAP space.

I don't open many tabs.

What's the point of opening many tabs at once?

That's a house of cards waiting to collapse. It only takes one single tab crashing to bring your entire session down.

Just kill yourself.

I use session manager, it doesn't take long to restore.

But yeah I don't like having that many tabs, it's important for some of my dev work so I don't want to close most of it until I finish the project.

It's mostly library portals, paper abstracts and stackexchange pages so it's pretty stable.

This.

Are you using 32-bit Firefox? I have had hundreds of tabs without crashing, Firefox 64-bit in Linux.

Saving temporary work. Tab groups are easier to manage than bookmarks that open in the same tab strip. For example I had a tab group for flashing my router - I was opening a shitload of links and links leading to links "READ THIS OR YOU'LL BRICK YOUR ROUTER" kinda stuff. Then with all of them open I'd cycle through and to make sure I was following all the disparate rules.

And at work, work automation, opening all the tabs so that they'll run scripts

And another tab group for porn. It takes me a while to find stuff I like so I start with a source like a search list, open a shitload of tabs, save one item every 10 or so tabs.
