>windows 10 brings bash in
>"Literally no reason to use Linux now"

I'm dual booting with Windows 10, and I'm actually thinking of going linux only solution now. I used to dual boot because of games (my computer at the time was shit and performance on windows was better than on linux)
but now that I've got a below average tier computer, performance should be better.

Is there a legitimate reason to keep Windows?
>>
>>53782942
>>Is there a legitimate reason to keep Windows?
besides the vidya gaymen, no, not really. 99% of everything the average user is ever likely to do works fine on Linux or has a good alternative.

maybe it's just me, but I tried to use Exact Audio Copy on a WM and it didn't work correctly

No it isn't. It just has an interface that's so unlike photoshop that anyone who learned PS first gets really bad baby-duck syndrome.

I learned GIMP first and even 8 year old copies of photoshop on wine is better than using GIMP

Okay you did got me there.

Why nobody did a decent video-editing software on linux ?
>>
>>53784176
GNU/Linux is an IDE.

For a lark I decided to call Microsoft support and report the Windows 10 upgrade pop-up as a virus. The tech told me, deadpan, that they'd been getting that a lot lately.

All I care about are emulators from the NES generation up to Dolphin, and Linux runs them just fine. I can't be fucked to care about so-called AAA games nowadays.

He gave me a quick fix for how to deactivate the pop-up. I consider it a legitimate use of the service.

No. It simply lacks features. How long have users begged for proper layer styles? They are still not done and there is no estimate.

>>53784176
Qt Creator is really good. The debugger is worse than in Visual Studio because it's so sluggish and not always shows inspected values, other than that, it's just as good.

You're the real shit pile here, shill from 2008. You can run Photoshop in Wine without any problems if you need to, but we all know that you don't. It's just that "Adobe" happens to be the first one in the ancient shilling list due to alphabetic order. Try saying something about games next.
>>
>>53786779
>You can run Photoshop in Wine without any problems
you can't run Photoshop CC 2015 without that fucking brush bug

Lightworks is shit covered in shit

Blender is disgusting and is 4x better
>>
>>53783027
>don't you dare say gimp, it's a fucking shit pile
No, it isn't. We went from "it's not as good" to "it's a fucking pile of shit". It's not awful, just not as good. If you started today and dedicated the rest of your life to making an image editor, you'd never have something as good as GIMP.
>>

Unless there's specific software that you really need that only works with Windows, not really.

>>53786756
Just pick the right version of wine, 1.7.20 has been been highly recommended and do recommend it as well. I'm giving the .34 a try, so far so good too.
>>
>>53786867
My point is that I used to use SAI in Windows and I use GIMP in Linux which I prefer over SAI if I would ever need to compare them in terms of how I use them.
>>
>>53786879
but can you use internet explorer?
>>
>>53786929
>internet explorer
why would you
>>
>>53786890
but GIMP and SAI are served for different purposes. GIMP is for image manipulation, SAI is for creating and drawing art. Some tools translate from one another, but that's why SAI has a stabalizer, it's to draw shit with a tablet.
You'd compare SAI and Corel Studio Pro to Krita, which I didn't like personally, but maybe I'm not used to the different environment. You'd compare GIMP to Photoshop, and you know how that is.
>>
If your job/school is still stuck in the twentieth century, then you might want to keep it for Microsoft Office. 3d animating is also supposed to be better on windows.
>>
>>53786961
>SAI has a stabilizer
So does GIMP, although its under different name and property.
I literally can use GIMP the same way as I was using SAI, it also recognises my Wacom Pen tablet just fine - no issues there.

>>
>>53786929
absolutely, this version on wine targets that brush issue but it doesn't render the rest of the compatibility useless. you can also create another virtual drive just for IE if you want to with a different conf. and wine version.
But! why would I do that anyways? why would anyone do that? IE isn't really something we want in our lives. and is basically one of the most useless piece of software Microsoft has to offer
>>
>>53787016
ah now that's a different question
I'm sure there's a way... doesn't wine have internet explorer alternative as default?
>>
>>53782942
>winfag here
I know you guys are excited, but don't forget that Ms seems to be overloaded with all these ambitious projects like the port of obj-c runtime with Cocoa or when they were trying for the whole year to recreate the Android environment to run apks (and failing miserably). I applaud for trying to do such things, but it seems to be too challenging and in the end you get a half assed runtime at best or nothing at all. I hope that won't be the case here but... guys, check the work of Joyent and how they were building a similar thing for Solaris. They didn't start from scratch. They spent many years to get to a somewhat usable 64-bit Ubuntu 15.04, and that with a Unix kernel behind with a somewhat similar syscall set.

Blender group is taking more notice in how people are using their software to set it up as a video editing software. Only a matter of time before they separate it and make it a standalone which will be both a vegas/premier/after effects like software.
>>
>>53787465
have fun with your "LINUX IS A MEME WITH SHIT SOFTWARE SUCK IS LINKEKS USERS!" mindset, Kdenlive actually is really great and I use it to make top quality edited videos, I prefer it to final cut or anything of that calibur, I have had no problems with it, plus if you are complaining why not just not be a NEET and edit the program how you want it's FOSS anyways with a free license so feel free to edit it how you like.
>>
>>53783072
I learned gimp first and thought photoshop was pointless.

>>
>>53787465
let me meet you halfway

no, there's no real alternative to premiere or final cut pro

but you're not a professional, you're a meme loving fuck and the most complex thing you'll ever do is some shitty youtube montage

and kdenlive is plenty good enough for that
>>
It's not just bringing in bash. It brings in an entire Linux subsystem. It can run native loonix binaries.
>>
Linux works fine for most things but for any kind of serious software, the open-source versions are absolute trash. A testament to the 'power' of open-source.
>>
Why do people think this is enjoyable to use...

You have to run another program to emulate anything popular instead of just running it normally? What the fuck guys.
>>
>>53786500
I would like to interject for a moment. Stallman doesn't post here.
>>
>>53788569
it's not emulation
>>
The real deal is now that there's PCI KVM passthrough which lets games use video cards at full native speed in Qemu, Vmware and I think a Wine addon is being implemented? There's really no reason to be using windows especially with the software support and the resourse usage benefits Lunix brings
>>
