Hi guys. I'm stuck in a bit of a rut with finding a linux-based audio player that can handle a huge number of files that doesn't offend the shit out of me. Anything that requires GTK2-3 or KDE framework is out of the question.

I'm migrating from Foobar2000 for Windows, and Deadbeef's plugins aren't compatible (big welp here). Banshee's garbage, and Amarok' far too bloated for the machine I'm working with.

Is there anything out there similar to ncmpcpp which displays album art, has an inbuilt equalizer and can stream over a local network?

trumping for interest

cmus faggot, you don't need album art just go to the directory to look at it

I need it, it's non-negotiable. It's for a dukebox setup. I didn't spend years collecting all the appropriate album art to just ignore it

Similar boat. Why don't fubar plugins work with dead beef? They're both built from the same source, right?

Foobar2k in WINE.

Kodi, banshee, and amarok come to mind.

Kodi is the best, and if you tweak it right it will leave the album art in the folders so banshee can pick it up.

I recommend using EMMS for EMACS.

Use MPD with Cantata as a client. It makes organizing and tagging large collections a dream. Also has some neat features like dynamic gain so music from various sources is at the same volume, but that's optional if you're a purist.

With the client-server architecture of MPD, you literally can stream music to anything with a web browser and speakers from anywhere if you port forward. There's a really nice MPD client for Android called MPD Droid that looks like a normal music player and has full MPD controls with tagging and playback info.

I'm not sure about equalizer though. I'm not one who likes to touch equalizers because I already use AKG headphones.

I will warn you though, the first time setup is a bit of a bitch, and it has a bit of a learning curve because it doesn't quite work the same as most music players. instead of just iterating through the next in the database, MPD had a queue where it players the next song in it once the current one finishes it. You can shuffle the queue and have it remove entries once they've been played, but it can be strange if you're not used to it. It's nice when you get used to it though, as you can load multiple playlist into the queue at once for example.

Extra thing about equalizer, I think you can get it to output to JACK which has a built in equalizer. If you do that and have it as the only JACK output that's one way to do it, I don't know of any native solutions.

MPD is also lightning fucking fast even on really bad hardware. Even an RPi can run it without a hiccup, and a complete database-directory rescan of 50GB takes a matter of seconds on said RPi.
