After doing a lot of research I came upon the Shure SE215 which seemed to be not only extremely well sounding earphones - but also well built and comfortable.
However every time I looked up threads on the Shure SE215s the top comment was mostly about how some other headphone is better.
I've managed to narrow it down to the three most mentioned and raved about headphones

1. RHA MA750i - $130
2. Shure SE215-$100
3. VSONIC GR07 Bass Edition - $130

A lot of people claim that the RHAs sound quality are vastly superior to the SE215. However I am used to using $30 earphones and having to replace them every year because they break. So the durability and comfortability of SE215 is very enticing for me.

1. Are the MA750i (of even the GR07BE) that much better sounding then the SE215 that they are worth the extra $30 and loss in comfort?

2. One of the SE215's biggest selling points are their build quality. Are the other IEMs similar in which they can survive for over 3 years and be pretty much abused the whole time? I really don't want to buy $130 earphones only to have to buy new ones after a few years.

If it makes a difference I pretty much listen exclusively to rap/ hip-hop
>>
I can't speak for the other ear buds but have owned the 215s and can speak on their behalf.

They're fantastic for hip hop/ whatever you would classify Kanye as because his music (specifically good morning) sounds better than any other track I've listened to with them.

However, if you like folk/indie rock bands like bon Iver or drew holcolmb, they're super mediocre.

In terms of build quality- it's pretty fantastic, and their isolation is their biggest selling point imo. I've walked along a main road before and not heard cars driving past me even with the music at around 75% of max
>>
Have you tried Viper4android? That shit made my 20$ jblt100a earphones sound godlike can't imagine any head/earphone sounding better
>>
>durability
Good chance that the left driver for the SE215 will break 2 years into usage. I don't know why but it's always precisely the left one, and only after 2 years.

Usually within the warranty period though.

I've had my SE215s since 2013, no problems other than that. These shits are hard to break.

Yeah I've heard really great stuff about the SE215s so I was going to but those. Except with a lot more research it seems like the MA750s are much superior in sound quality so I am heavily leaning towards them now. Except it seems like the SE215 might be better for rap as they sound more "fun". So I'm not sure.
>>
>>53781799
I've installed and it made no sound come out of my headphone. Must of fucked up some settings. Just uninstalled it out of laziness instead of trying to fix it.
>>
>>53781815
You contradicted yourself. Typo?

ahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha
>>
I also have the SE215, good for isolation and bass. I think they're comfortable, that's one of the main reasons I wanted them, my ears are very damaged.
>>
Shure SE215 are the best earphones at that price range for what I need.

1) look nice
2) excellent sound
3) good bass for the niggermusic lovers
4) Go around my ear. Regular earphones always kept falling out, but these can be used whenever wherever.

Not just that, but each of the earphones is modular and replaceable.

I accidentally smashes the right earphone while I dropped something heavy on it at work, and I easily got a replacement for half the price of new ones.

I like em, I gladly shill for Shure.

You should really try it out again if u have time for it. That shit is crazy ass hell you won't expect the wow factor when you hear it for the first time. But I have to admit though the installation is a pain in the ass. Here is the guide I used https://m.reddit.com/r/Android/comments/2x3ztr/viper4android_installation_set_up_guide/

Good luck if u're going to try again

Oh yeah let me just put on these fifty pound headphones while I go jogging or working out. Let me look like a total douchewad with gigantic headphones on in class.
>>
>>53781843
No typo.
Google will tell you that a lot of people experience the left driver breaking on its own.
This doesn't really tell you about its durability so much as SHURE's foray into planned obsolescence. But it doesn't matter if you get it within the warranty period.

Actually attempting to break them is difficult, and if you do break them out of warranty, replacement parts are available for relatively cheap ($65 per driver, $10 for the cable)
>>
The Bose IEMs in that price range sound really good and I like the sound better than the Shures. However the cable they use for them are not very good and break over time. However you can recable them and actually improve the sound according to audiophiles.
>>
>>53781930
Can you explain what exactly it does? And so would I achieve maximum sound quality with expensive earphones and Viper?
>>
>>53781638
If you have glasses you'll want to use a non-stock cable, the "memory wire" is bullshit
they're fantastic for edm/metal/rock/nonacoustic music, and mostly good for acoustic too

More importantly, it's not uncommon for them to dip down to around $85

See if you can find a place to demo the ones you're looking at to learn about comfort and sound, then trust strangers on the internet on durability

You already look like a giant douchebag faggot desu
May as well go the extra mile and get a pair of headphones that isn't shit.
>>
>>53781953
non-stock cables are shit.
The memory wire is easy enough to take out with a razor blade and a steady hand.

Maybe if you listen at ear shattering volumes in a library or something.

last time I checked, Etys were the only brand of headphones that have been proven to block out teenagers and shithead university students who won't shut the fuck up in libraries

Would not recommend the RHA MA750. They do sound better than the SE215's in terms of highs and mids but the rubber on the cabling practically disintergrates after the warranty runs out.

Have to keep mine together with tape. In addition, the right driver is failing me now so ill have to put them to rest.

Flatmate has the SE215's and they're going strong. I definitely recommend something with replacable cables.
>>
>>53782152
They do have a 3 year warranty. So I'm guaranteed at least that much. I did hear a lot of good things about SE215 build quality but that might just be because they are much more popular so more people talk about them.
>>
>>53782152
Don't use tape use sugru.
>>

What the hell is that

>1) look nice
They look like ugly fucking hearing aids and this is coming from a 535 user.
>>
>>53782322
Heard of it before. I might give it a go so i can squeeze some life out of these things before investing in something new.

Jacking this thread. With a budget of 30-40 USD, and the Xiaomi Pistons not being an option, what earphones are my best bet? Also, I'd prefer if the jack was straight and not right angled.
>>
>>53782084
The shure with foam tips are pretty great too, though realistically anything with foam tips should work
>>
>>53781638
Just buy 10 pairs of Xiaomi Piston 2s.

Soundmagic E10.

Used se215, just find them on Craigslist or something, the modular design makes them great since you can replace the cables and stuff.
>>
>>53783032
Thanks, I'll check them out.

>>53783034
I dont think Craigslist is a viable option where I live, but Ill try, thanks.
>>
>>53781777
That volume is hurting isn't it? I mostly listen around 30% with isolation plus comply foam. I judge the volume base off the volume i listen to in a quiet room at night...
>>
>>53783006
How did you get those tips to work? I thought IE800s had proprietary tips.
>>
I own the Se215. They get way too gross too quickly. I just use a pair of CX-300II for earbuds cause they sound decent enough and are super comfy, I wear earbuds for 10 hours a day at work to pass the time.
>>
my se215 left side start bitching, but i dont know if is the cable or not...
>>
>>53782970
Vsonics vsd3. They're a bit bass heavy, but if you want the midrange to shine get the vsd3s
>>
I wouldn't be so Shure about that OP
>>
Good audio and build quality - yes. But comfortable - no. My SE215 are the least comfortable earplugs I have owned (out of 4 total)
>>
>>53784198
I cut out the cylinder of the proprietary tips and shoved it into a comply T 400
>>
Look at the westone so single drivers... W1 i think. USA made and sound better desu
>>
Im on my third se425 cable

But its great considering ive used them for two years 50 hours a week

And even then the plug only breaks because i keep them in a tight jeans pocket
>>
Use them in a factory, the isolation was the mayor aspect to buy them.
Regardless I use them to play shoegaze or slowcore they sound acceptable.
Been using them for about 4 years and only have to change the cable once.
Go for them men.
>>
>>53787434
How much does each cable cost?
>>
>>53787299
OP is looking for $100 earphones
Suggests $500 earphones
>>
I've owned my for 3 years now, and they're still going strong.

I like them, though I mostly listen to 90's hip hop and the 60's 70's shit that was sampled during the 90's.
>>
>>53790801
Which one are you talking about? Shures?
>>
>>53784527
I'll check those out, too, anon. Thanks.

se215 are fucking ace. And you look cool as fuck wearing them, espesh the clear ones
