So /g/, why haven't you bought into the dank SSD meme yet?
>synthetic benchmarks
How the fuck did you get those speeds?
>>53778929
Ram
>>53779245
Explain?
>>53780431
Ram disk I think is what anon is implying.
>>53780458
A 500GB RamDISK?
>>53780463
Sorry should pay attention. Oopsies.
>>53780483
Some Samsung SSDs with better caches can actually saturate their connection speeds. They write to somewhere else before the actual NAND which is faster and its so good that it can continuously l at SATA 3 speeds.
>>53780458
Nah he's set it to test 500MB only.
To improve performance the system usually caches files in the ram if your system has enough.
If you set it to test a small amount like 500MB, you're looking at ram speeds. That's why the default is 1GB iirc
>>53780716
Boy I sure do like these SSDs.
>>53780797
And here's the standard 1 GB. Still think you're looking at RAM speeds?
>>53780797
>>53780834
>the larger it gets the slower it gets
Definitely looking at ram speeds.
You probably have 32gb in your system just for showing off
>>53781011
>32 GB RAM
How retarded are you exactly? Get yourself familiar with Samsung's newer SSDs.
I don`t come anywhere near thouse speeds.
>>53781381
>OCZ
There's your problem mate. I'm using a 500 GB Samsung EVO 850 in mSATA form factor.
Samsung has done some hardware and software wizardry to achieve this, most importantly this is all the SSD, no external RAM is playing any part in this like the other tard thought.
I hear Intel has developed something like 70 times faster than NAND I think.
I did tho, fully encrypted, still runs smooth. never going back
>>53781419
Even the OCZ feels like lightning compared to HDD. Man I need a Samsung EVO 850.
>>53781449
Why full encryption? Do you just want it to be impossible to access your machine upon startup or something?
>2016
>not using ramdisks with UPS for data storage
shiggy
>>53777629
damn that's fast
30gb thinkpad drive only 1/2 full
>>53781518
wat
>>53777629
>rapid mode
At least turn it off before you post benches ffs. Mine is on atm, it helps. But I'm not sure the numbers are really reflective of performance.
>>53781552
Was gonna post this. I have an 840 Evo, and I pull similar numbers with it on despite being on a rig that only handles SATA II.
>>53781552
This.
OP is a fag
Reminder that the only thing that matters is 4K speed
>>53781419
Are you really this stupid? Those benchmarks are your RAM speed and Samsung's magician program thing just further leverages RAM for caching. You'd need 2 950 Pros to achieve 3GBps speeds. How do you think you're getting over 6Gbps over SATA, retard?
>>53781475
All it takes is a two second password entry on boot with luks, so why not? I really just don't want some fag ever potentially snooping through my shit. Basic privacy principle I guess
>>53781419
>software wizardry
You mean utilising your ram to increase ssd performance?
>>53777629
>not using RAM disks
>>53777629
>>53780834
>>53780797
>the larger the file gets, the slower the benchmark performs
>claims its not a ram benchmark
Can everyone post their benchmarks. Would like to know the avarge.
>>53783013
500 read 400 write is the average for any average priced ssd
>tfw still not seeing the point of having ssd
>>53780797
>>53780834
Why are the write speeds higher on the top?
>>53783222
If you don't see the point in increased speed and responsiveness across everything then just end it all.
>>53783261
>oh shit my boot time decreased by 0.01s
>awesome
>>53783275
Your OS and apps are constantly writing to disk
>>53783284
i still dont think having an ssd will significantly improve average usage
>>53783297
Well your thoughts are wrong and there's nothing you can do about that other than accept your stupidity and move on
>>53783306
My desktop boots up in around 15-20 seconds with a HDD, never really timed it.
Most my apps are damn near instantaneous it won't make a difference, and with ext4 fragmentation isn't an issue
>>53783384
Ok.
>>53783384
I doubt that.

http://www.thessdreview.com/software-2/samsung-magician-4-5-rapid-mode-2-1-testing/
It's "RAPID Mode" if it's a samsung SSD. It does ram caching before hitting the SSD.
>>53783413
>>53783438
I'm running Ubuntu mate if it makes any difference.
