What's up with all the AKG hate as of late? These (Q701, K702, K612, etc.) are as neutral as neutral can be - for the price

Is it because of Zeos bashing the K612 that this new wave of haters has arrived, or made their voice be heard when otherwise would have remained silent?

What i usually do to make a cable straight is to leave it hanging over night, if the weight of the cable alone is not enought you can use a piece of thread and strap it to a small weight so it hangs flat.

the 880 is more neutral with more bass then the k701, the k7xx have more bass then the 880, the k7xx looks more warm to me, if you want something more different then the k701 in the bass region then the k7xx
>>
>>53775533
If you have money for a DT880 i wouldn't go for a DT990 as it's rather strong v-shape, also, imho the K702 is better for gaming than the DT880, that's up for debate since it's subjective, but i just think the positional accuracy on the DT880 isn't that great, the bass on it however is very nice, explosions sound great on the DT880.
Comfort wise, does you k701 have bumps on the headband? imo:
Bumpless k702 > DT880 > original k702
>>
>>53776187
My K701 had the bump, yes. I don't mind them much actually, so that's why I have no problem with it at all comfort-wise.

>>53776168
I don't exactly get what you're saying. Are you saying the 880 is more neutral overall, and has more bass than the K701, or that the bass is louder than on the K701, making it more neutral as a whole ?

ATH-M50X or something else?
>>
So I've been reading through the wiki and been thinking about the Sony MDR-V6. Two questions:
1. Everyone keeps mentioning how it's used for studio work, is it suited for just casually listening to music?
2. What are the differenced to the MDR-7506?
>>
Is there something like dt990, portable and closed?
I got ath m50x today and was very disappointed in them.
>>
>>53776403

1. is neutral hence if you make music you will hear it like you want it and other people should also, being neutral is not "fun" so it can be plain if you casually ear music.

2. Both are made with the same parts, they are only grounded differently, the differences are very minimal so just buy the one that is cheaper (almost always is the 7506)
>>
>>53776403
>is it suited for just casually listening to music?
It will work just fine since it's mostly neutral, problem is, some people think it's too bright, you could fix that with a Eq if that's the case for you.
>differenced to the MDR-7506
Aside from a few different metals used on the exact same parts and the blue stripe there should be no difference, in fact there's a bit of controversy since there are not many measurements of both made by the same source for comparison, but even among those who think the sound is different it's a consensus that it's not that different.
In general we just suggest that people go for whichever is the cheaper option where they live.
On a side note: although the v6/7506 is very durable, the pads get worn rather fast, you might want alternative pads for it, such as the Auray Sheep Skin pads.

is the dt770 a upgrade from the 7506 or should i just keep my money?

Why do people buy open-back headphones?

If you are in a private, quiet room by yourself then a good speaker system is objectively better.

If you're literally anywhere else then background noise will ruin your music's detail and closed back headphones are objectively better.
>>
I bought the 7506 as per recommendations a week back but these sound really.. off?

What are some good headphones under £100 that aren't so detailed and neutral sounding? Preferably not studio monitor

Indeed, looking at the Headroom graphs, it does seem to be bass-heavy if we consider it closer-sounding to the K712 than to the K701.

That said, I don't know exactly what is the optimal curve, so I can't really tell which one is supposed to be the best.

>>
>>53776579
The DT770 may be very sibilant and plain painful depending on the ears and type of music you hear.
>>
>>53776668
You could use a speaker at night but you'll get noise complaints.
>>
>>53776668
Because :
1) I live in an appartment, speakers would make me an enemy out of all of my neighbours.
2) I use a microphone for VoIP, so speakers would be really dreadful for that use.
>>
>>53776668
>If you are in a private, quiet room by yourself then a good speaker system is objectively better.
I live in a flat. Not gonna turn on my speakers at night, I thought it was pretty obvious. Also for playing games where position is critical they also help a lot

As far as I'm aware, in terms of bass it goes like this

K712 > K7XX > Q701 > K612 > K702 > K701

The K712 has too much bass while the K7XX has a pretty good amount.
>>
>>53776730

for neutral? is better if the frequencies doesnt peak more than 5db from the center, the k712 are more warm than neutral, and i think the k7xx are in between, what i saw is that the k7xx long curve ends on 2khz and you will have to increase the db on 3khz and 5khz to make them more neutral
>>
>>53776854

yeah i say that the k7xx are warm-neutral of some shit

Criticism =! hate and it's kind of expected here after the rampant shilling that took place in recent months.

I don't see them being neutral on any target and they certainly don't sound neutral. There are also more balanced and neutral headphones to be had for less money than those are.

Who cares about Zeos?

>>53775533
I'd pick the DT880.

>>53776278
There's barely a difference.

>>53776366
Definitely not M50X if you want comfy. Try DT770 80 Ohm, St Paul's Sound has them for cheap iirc.

>>53776403
Wiki is outdated and bad. The good stuff is behind the links at the end of the articles. MDR-V6 is discontinued, MDR-7506 replaced it and it's basically identical. A good choice for a neutral/bright closed pair of headphones.

>>53776579
Update only if you prefer a V-shaped sound signature.

>>53776668
Speaker system in a room often sounds like ass unless you are in a nearfield sweet spot. Even then low frequencies go all over the place without equalization and room treatment.

Loudspeakers tend to cost more.

People living in an apartment can't blast speakers at night.

Someone might actually prefer headphone sound signature over loudspeakers.

>>53776730
Optimal curve should be flat after compensation. However these target response vary a great deal and Headroom uses an especially dumb compensation with excessive smoothing. At least they provide a raw response graph too but you'll have to understand the target curves in order to read it properly.

>>53776982
That's all of EU for anything imported outside of EU really. Just buy the K702 if it's the headphone you want.

No, don't equalize the treble region based on graphs. Listen through a logarithmic sine sweep with your headphones. Compensate for the changes in loudness using a parametric equalizer.

Judging from the measurements on personalaudio.ru, their compensation is something close to diffuse field but with the rise in upper mids/treble being considerably lower. A good anchor is the HD 650 there which measures nearly flat yet it's a warm sounding and measuring headphone on any other site.

As for the HD 598, not all of them exhibit that treble peak. It's possible that Sennheiser sneak updated/changed something over the years, the compensation used on these sites is wildly different(some definitely are) and/or the measurement couplers used behave considerably differently in that region.

http://www.sam.hi-ho.ne.jp/t-suzuki/audio_headphones/sennheiser_hd598.html

http://www.innerfidelity.com/images/SennheiserHD598.pdf
http://graphs.headphone.com/graphCompare.php?graphType=-1&graphID[]=2851&scale=30

Grab a sine sweep, listen through it and where you hear a peak or a dip, apply EQ to make it go away. Trial and error.

I get that this is b8, but there really is a difference between a weeb and someone who just enjoys the medium.
>>
>>53780721
Yeah, and an amp might make your headphones sound worse if it's not a good quality one. I mean even the 558s closely match the FR of the HD600. Even cumulative spectral decay is similar between the 558 and the 600s. There will be an improvement but it's just not that huge.In regards to K7XX and 558 It mostly will come in wider soundstage a bit better imaging and instrument separation but you might dislike the upper mids on the K7XX. One improvement might be bass extension but again, not a huge improvement. The point of diminishing returns is like 300, above that you just might get a different sound signature and fancier technology which is cool on paper but doesn't return much improvement.
>>
>>53780721
Depends really. I don't know much about AKG headphones, having only tried the Q701's and only having tried the Sennheiser HD650's (which, the Senns were better) but it's not a whole lot. It doesn't start getting good until about the $500+ range. Otherwise it's not a whole lot different unless the sound signature is opposite or something.

Even then "good" might just be a sound signature you like with slight improvement on other aspects. TOTL headphones satisfy two things: placebophiles and lab measurements.
>>
>>53780901
>>53780908
Suppose I'll wait and treat my next headphone purchase as a total luxury item. Is there anywhere I can go to try out and test different headphones? I'd hate to pay $300 and then go back t0 558s for the warm sound signature (not that I know much about SS. Only have tried 558s and my IEMS which have better bass).
>>
>>53780946
I suppose. I use LCD-2's and the planar magnetics destroy most dynamic drivers. So for me, it's a lot about clear imaging. Sound signature isn't too important but I do love the bass on these. I can just boost it with my amp and it sounds fine for EDM/Dubs.

Would I drop the LCD-2's for say, a pair of Stax? Not really, just because I don't care for how bright they sound, as good as their imaging is.

>>53780918
Yeah, Key can make some sweet OST's. I really like the Charlotte and Angel Beats sound tracks too.

>What's up with all the AKG hate as of late?
Haters are either simply shitposters or people preferring warm/lullaby sound over an alaytical/cold sound.
>These (Q701, K702, K612, etc.) are as neutral as neutral can be - for the price
Overall yes, if you exclude some some peaks in the treble and a somehow weak bass. Again, most people have been considering bass as a very important feature in their audio equipment, partly because modern mainstream music is bass-heavy and partly because people prefer warm/veiled sound. For the price the AKG open models are excellent headphones. Just think that the K702 used to cost as much as the HD650 some time ago and people used to think that K702 was on the same level as the HD650. Times, music, tastes, and people have changed since then....
>Is it because of Zeos bashing the K612 that this new wave of haters has arrived, or made their voice be heard when otherwise would have remained silent?
Not just Zeos unfortunately, but he's a subjective reviewer after all. Tyll is also strongly biased against AKG, even though his measurements are usually in contrast with his subjective impressions.
>>
>>53784800

Endgame is when you learn what endgame neutral sounds like and start equalizing cheap headphones to sound good.

>>
>>53784916
Warm and cold sound are really poor and reductive ways of describing sound at any rate, as well as saying that a headphone is analytical or sounds tinny, artificial, natural ecc.ecc.. I have a K702 and personally I don't consider it as cold and bass-light as people say, I would just say that the K702 is extremely clear, that is to say that it has excellent instruments' separation and it presents the whole audible spectrum very well.
>>
>>53784983
>the Senns are an acquired taste
Nice way to rationalize your bad purchase
>>
>>53785025
Not rationalizing anything, I just know some people like loads of distorted bass, which the 800's don't have, so it's a good idea to keep your expectations in check.
>>

You're missing the point. I wasn't blaming people for wanting neutral bass (which only good planar headphones have btw), I was blaming people that consider headphones having the right amount of bass as bad headphones in comparison with headphones boosting bass.

>>53784827
Whoever did that doesn't really know what they are doing with a parametric EQ. The strength of a parametric equalizer is to use filters of different types to much more accurately and effectively fix the problems in the frequency response. You might as well use a simple multi band graphic equalizer if you don't touch the filters types but I highly recommend learning the parametric EQ. It's much more effective.

>>53785072

Boosted bass is easier to EQ than rolled off bass, especially when dynamics have high subbass distortion.
>>

>Is this some SBAF thing?
Yes, but if you can help it, try the new method: http://www.superbestaudiofriends.org/index.php?threads/superdupont-resonator-summary-and-interest-check.1558/
I got the foam from a keyboard wrist rest, the felt was four layers of cleaning cloth, 160gsm office paper, and I super glued the whole stack together. Didn't have hole punches so I used wood-working tools.
>>
>>53785198
Of course, but it would be always better to not EQ anything at all. K702 has less THD distortion than, let's say, HD600 in the sub-bass region and according to Tyll and other measurements K702 sub-bass is better than HD600 out of the box. Among dynamic headphones DT880 and HD800 have the best bass overall.

It still works, but from what I remember reading through the thread is that the olive also catches the 4~5khz frequencies, while the new one is more localized. Hey guys, need help, tried to buy JVC HAFX-101 for my sister for her birthday and after three weeks of waiting, on the last day, I got fucked over by the store and I'm not getting them in time
Can anyone recommend some cheap but good IEM, I've seen some Panasonic model ending in 120 in the /g/wiki guide, but I have only seem similiar model ending in 125 to buy, are those any good ? I'm going to store at the moment and would like to get some recommendations to look for, since here I can only find mainstream stuff like Panasonic and Philips and shit, no Xiaomi and such that I was looking for at first

How accurate is pic related? HD668B are $40 and 8323 at $30 are tempting
ignore sound quality because I'll be damned before I hear a difference after some shitty in-ears messed me up
