Ok /g/tards. Whats the beef between windows 7 and windows 10 really, The stupid meme shit aside. I don't care about botnet i want functionality and /v/ related nonsense. What is the real verdict on Windows 10?

If you do not care about the botnet, then W10 is better. Most people do care about the botnet though.
>>
>>53764301
Why? Because of Child Pornography? I mean seriously why would any normal person care besides jared that i'm looking at quickbooks.
>>
>>53764301
Literally the only reason you'd ever want to upgrade to Windows 10 is DirectX 12.

Everything else about the OS is worse, buggy, unstable, inconsistent and generally just flat out terrible in terms of design, functionality, consistency and aesthetics.

(Compared to W7)
>>
>>53764319
If you don't know, then 10 is for you senpai
>>
>>53764301
>then W10 is better
Not really. Driver incompatibilities, games not working, bsods, etc. maybe they'll get worked out, but right now 7/8 seems better. Also no performance gains. Really only dx12 is a plus, and there really isn't anything using it yet, plus vulkan.
>>
>>53764346
Bullshit. Not a single crash here. Get non shit hardware.

What I like is that some universal apps now are becoming good.

Waiting until the upgrade isn't for free anymore is definitely retarded.

Windows 7 was best on desktops. Windows 8 was best on touch screen devices. The problem with 8 on desktops and the problem with 10 in general is that they are trying be the best at everything.

They don't care that people don't like or want that. They just want to simplify shit for themselves.
>>
I'm working on an old core 2 duo system, 2 gb ram, and it's working perfectly for me. It never crashes or bugs or anything like that. Huge performance upgrade from W7.

I don't know about newer systems though.

You don't invite an audience to your bathroom when you take a shit. You're not doing anything wrong, but you don't want people watching. Same concept.

Not to mention, considering things like the Apple iCloud leak and shit, I don't trust any company to protect all of the massive amounts of data they're scraping.
>>
>>53764773
I used W8 for a whole year before going back to 7. How does the tiles screen, app store and shit even add anything to the OS? It's only fucking annoying.
>>

>why would any normal person care
Well you see, Bobby, what you're interested in has some correlation with what you're interested in buying. Normal people sometimes become a parasitic creature called a "marketer" with which you may be familiar with from /v/.

So then these ex normal people - these marketers, see an opening - if they know what you like from the botnet, and they know someone who sells that thing, they can shill those things to you.

On a large enough scale, they can step back and let a computer do this for them while their boss makes money from it and passes it down.

But you see, Bobby, that's not right - ignoring problems like filter bubble and unnecessary data usage - this is still a violation of your privacy, a violation of your privacy by a parasite that doesn't need to exist. It's not about having something to hide, it's that parasites have no justifiable need to know your information, and use subterfuge and obfuscation to obtain it instead of asking plainly and honestly, which in itself is a reason to deny them what they want.

You shouldn't support parasites Bobby, they're harmful, and when you support them you don't just harm yourself - you let them multiply and go on to harm others.
>>
OP here, There has to be some kind of upside to this crap. No efficiency gain, Or CPU thead gain out of it? If that isn't feasable then why the hell would they want you to upgrade besides spying on the snackbar.
>>
>>53764860
it's not an upgrade at all, hence why it's free. You're just installing spyware: the OS.

>>

yeah stick to 7 for a couple more years. This thread is a mess but normally this is one of the only things /g/ agrees on, and many here run a win7/linux dual boot.
>>
>>53764877
>free
You are paying with your data (keylogs, wifi sense, browsing pattern etc)
>>
>>53764860
>would they want you to upgrade
There's a second reason partly distinct from spying (though basically it's still spying, just slightly more mundane)

I'm of the understanding Microsoft has basically "given up" on consumer Windows as a particularly profitable platform other than OEM installs, so Windows 10 is 'free' to bring everyone quickly onto one unified platform.

The new purpose of consumer windows will be to act as lab-monkeys to improve the experience of using windows in businesses (so Windows 10 will have lots of telemetry to spot all the software crashes, etc, and fix them for business users.)

Now personally I still consider that wrong on principle, partly because they're not very upfront about it, and partially because data collection without consent is data collection without consent, even if literally the only data you send is "Notepad crashed because Anon opened 2000 instances of notepad.exe" so to let them know that business users should be served a warning message at 1999 instances of notepad.exe. It's still none of your business to collect that data without asking, or by hiding the question in a T&C notice the length of the Iliad.

W7 literally has more functionality much in part thanks to it being old, solid and proven. What fucking functionality does WiNSA provides other than DX12? Do you really care about gimmicks like cortana?
>>
>>53764301
Nice projection. Most people have nothing to hide you criminal scum.
>>
As far as I'm concerned, if you're going to use windows, you should use the windows that has the widest range of compatibility.

Windows 7 is more compatible with older shit, and is still compatible with everything other than dx12 and microsoft's dumbass app store.

>inconsistent gui, mix of metro and the older windows forms gui
>botnet aside, sending unnecessary information might impose various security risks regarding personal data theft
>still has bugs, can be considered the new windows vista

It's shit. The only thing they really needed to do was to take windows 8.1 and streamline that mess of a double gui. That's the one issue I had with 8, and now they managed to make it even worse.

There's just a few reasons why you should care about the botnet. How would feel if a random person on the internet was looking at your info and files? You have no guarantee it's JUST the NSA and Microsoft, it could be anyone.

Windows 10 is better than 7 if you don't care about muh botnet. It isn't buggy or unstable at all. At my uni there's a computer room with 40 dell optiplex whatevers (i5-2400, 4gb, 300gb hdd) all running windows 10 smoothly without any problems.
Only time windows is slow is when it's pre-installed.
>>
>>53764201
10 is very nice, provided you have modern to cutting edge hardware, a fast and stable network connection and patience. 10 feels like 8.1 through a windows 7 lens, in that the desktop and start menus are back, though the control panel has been quite scrambled, but you should be using the start menu to find individual utilities, like services.msc, disk management, or device manager. If you dont really mind the opt-out nature of some of MS's facebook-esque monetization schemes, its... alright. I made the hop when W7 needed driver fuckery for my M.2 SSD to install properly, in legacy bios mode, no UEFI. But those boot times though, 10 seconds from cold start to Everything loading its indexes.
>>
>>53764362
Or you could pirate it in 5 fucking seconds. There are definitely compatibility issues with each iteration of Windows, even if they seem like similar OS builds. Throw a botnet on top and you have yourself a nice shit sandwich.
