Only webdev languages are taken over by retards because only retards actually like them to begin with.

Though Ruby is largely hipster cunts because Rails popularized it. A shame, since it's actually getting fast now.

As a C++ programmer. I can begrudgingly say I'm one of those idiots.
I think it's unfair to say that any language is being taken over by idiots. I think it's due to the fact that student programmers are hitting the publish button before they're actually ready to hit the market.
I'm just about to finish my second year at university, and we've got to do a compulsory placement year in a company. I can tell you for sure I'm not ready to go out in the field (I started programming only when I started uni).

Assembly is used all the time for performance tweaking. After optimizing and compiling an algorithm implemented in C, the assembly code is tweaked to squeeze out the last few performance gains.
>>
>>53766092
bean was worse oldfag ;)
>>
>>53766202
Compilers do this well enough, if not better. Spending hour performance tweaking for the 0.00001% gain is not viable in any scenario.
>>
>>53766223
Something a person who never optimized anything would say. Optimizing inner loops can easily give you a 1000% increase in performance -- and seeing the the generated code in assembly can easily push you towards the right solution.
>>
This is how you should do it:
#include <stdio.h>

int main(){
printf("1\n2\nFizz\n4\nBuzz\nFizz\n7\n8\nFizz\nBuzz\n11\nFizz\n13\n14\nFizzBuzz\n16\n17\nFizz\n19\nBuzz\nFizz\n22\n23\nFizz\nBuzz\n26\nFizz\n28\n29\nFizzBuzz\n31\n32\nFizz\n34\nBuzz\nFizz\n37\n38\nFizz\nBuzz\n41\nFizz\n43\n44\nFizzBuzz\n46\n47\nFizz\n49\nBuzz\nFizz\n52\n53\nFizz\nBuzz\n56\nFizz\n58\n59\nFizzBuzz\n61\n62\nFizz\n64\nBuzz\nFizz\n67\n68\nFizz\nBuzz\n71\nFizz\n73\n74\nFizzBuzz\n76\n77\nFizz\n79\nBuzz\nFizz\n82\n83\nFizz\nBuzz\n86\nFizz\n88\n89\nFizzBuzz\n91\n92\nFizz\n94\nBuzz\nFizz\n97\n98\nFizz\nBuzz\n");
}
>>
>>53766256
It's just not a realistic view on programming. There's a trade-off between development time and performance, and the optimum has been shifting towards lower development time.

If you're creating a compiler you could invest time in caring about performance at assembly level, in general it's just a bad idea.
>>
>>53765613
Python is hated so fucking much on this board, yet its an awfully beneficial and practical language. It gets shit done like nothing else.

Same goes for go, a managed/memory-secure language that finally makes huge framework dependencies like the JVM or .NET obsolete, while still not having to deal with the horrible issues with undefined behavior and exploits that plague literally any widely used C or C++ app. If you are writing a server or networking application right now its basically the best option, especially if you intent to ship it onto multiple platforms.

OSX is a great OS, that had tons of features 10 years ahead of Windows and is an arguably good development environment simply due to the fact that its unix based. The only critique people on this board seem to come up with is "muh HFS", which is basically just repeating what Linus said while ignoring that is has literally zero effect on the user in any way.

Other things /g/ hates that are actually good: Eclipse and IDEs in general, C# JVM (still despite creating framework dependencies), Webkit, SELinux, SystemD, Sandboxed self-contained application bundles a.k.a. apps, list could go on.
>>
>>53766324
>optimum has been shifting
Quite a difference from your previous post stating assembly is completely useless.
>>
>>53766351
It's shifting as in C is viable in <1% of all projects, assembly in <0.001% of all projects.

Maybe in webdev. C++ is still used in most commercial applications, and assembly is the way to inspect the code generated by C++ compiler.

My anecdotal experience suggests that Java and C# applications for internal corporate usage are the most stable.

Either way, there's no evidence outside of the anecdotal persuasion to prove your point that "high-quality commercial applications" are written in C++.

It's simply a feeling you have, likely based on your own experiences.

+1 to Cobol
Java displacing Cobol has been a nightmare except the removal of the mainframes which consume donkey dong and guzzle cash.

Cobol is a way better language for "working programmers" doing business applications.

Gnu/Linux is the best server OS.

Anything but a mainframe and all the trash that comes with it (EBCDIC, CICS, JCL,..) for hardware.

Plus visualization LPARS bloooow...

Hello fellow STEM! I brought le STEM meme from STEM site for us to enjoy :)
>>
>>53767764
It's good being STEM! It's a nice white male club! No women and minorities! Good life!
>>
>>53767868
>i like to mention im a stem major for no reason at all
Do you find that funny?
You might want to look at what social studies people keep bringing up in open source communities; I bet you'll laugh so hard your sides are going to leave orbit.
>>

>Is there any programming language remaining that hasn't been taken over by idiots?

>You might want to look at what social studies people keep bringing up in open source communities
Why do you care? Are trying to find things to hate?
>>
>>53767916
Oh, I care because of methods you use. When maintainer of another project you want to turn SJW does not agree to your conditions, you start fucking up his life.

>I won't argue because his """opinions""" are beneath me

haha what a fool.

you'll get cucked soon enough, bud, and then you'll realize deep you're in it
>>
>>53767970
it has happened on more than one occasion. in fact, you can look in the OP for a hint of how "big" one can be and still fall to these losers
>>
>>53763031
the reason a lot of web languages are such a mess is because they're fundamentally badly designed. you can't build good frameworks and tools on top of a poor foundation. javascript is all type fuckery, errors passing silently, weird behaviour and verbose code, and PHP literally made me want to end my life (and all i was doing was building a wordpress site with some relatively minor custom functionality). ruby i don't know very well but i remember the syntax not being very good

the only other language that i can think of populted by retards are the microsoft 'visual x' languages. i used to reverse-engineer VBA 'programs' for my job (password-protecting excel spreadsheets doesn't actually encrypt anything, it just changes one hex value) and the fucking shit spaghetti code you find in them is honestly astounding.

i've not used ASP but i am told it's also a fractal of horrible, horrible design decisions

Ruby?
The only reason people hate Ruby is because it is as powerful as Python but the syntax looks infinitely better and everybody needs to convince themselves Python is better

>also Django is the same as Rails I swear guys, look it only takes 3 days to set up a CRUD app
>>
>>53768071

Figure it out yourself with your rational STEM logic.
>>
>>53768064
>you can't provide logical reasons for any argument because you haven't taken the course I have from my university!

i like tex but it has all the trappings of a language that's not undergone significant revision in like 20 years and really fucking needs it

>>
>>53768115
I used Tex for maybe 3-4 years now, but really I'm doubting if it's still worth all the pain. I have some pre-configured projects I just copy paste but every time I start something new I notice how much work it really is.

This.

Most of the users are to blame because they have absolutely no clue about TeX/LaTeX internals & typesetting in general and need a package for everything.
