I would literally still use a defunct version of VMware Workstation 12 over using Virtualbox. Virtualbox a shit. A SHIT.
>>
>>53762673
Any complaints? I'm probably going to migrate soon.

>>53762681
Is this vmware because they fired their entire engineering team so its never going to be fixed

There was a vmware dev on /g/ a few years ago. This must have been his fault.
>>
>>53762714
Took me a little time to set it properly to work in my Debian. But was fun. Now is all good.
>>

So you don't have a source for any of it then?
I was pretty sure you were full of shit, but this pretty much confirms it.
>>
Holy shit it's true

That sucks, Workstation was the most reliable virtualization software on Windows hosts. I've never had much luck with VirtualBox, but I guess on the bright side the mass exodus of users to the only remaining platform will probably spur development.

Actually, now that I think about it, maybe HyperV will actually see some use now - it's been getting better (allegedly) and VMware wouldn't run while you had the service enabled, so maybe we'll finally get features like hardware passthrough of GPUs and such without having to go to a Linux host.
>>
>>53762773

Maybe Virtual Iron will be brought back from the dead... only oldfags remember it
>>
>>53762770
gee faggot you're just here to shitpost arent you? You could find all of these just by googling and clicking the first link but you're too lazy for that.

You made bold claims.

It's not my job to instantly drop everything and google YOUR claims every time you write a post or open your stupid mouth.
If YOU make a claim, YOU have to support it.

What about WS/Fusion being EOL'd?
>>
>>53762860
from the businessinsider-article:

In fact, some of the executives on its bench, including sales leader Maurizio Carli, CTO Ray O’Farrell, and executive VP Sanjay Poonen were all promoted today to take on bigger roles within the company.

>SANJAY
>POONEN

can't make that up

Hyper v works decently. The interface is horribly impractical for large deployments so you end up needing a third party manager like 5 nine.

Needs to be americanized to Poonenstreet.

Literally who the fuck cares? Anyone with a real need for virtualization should be using a bare metal hypervisor anyhow.

What is VMware without workstation or fusion?
No really, what do they do besides that and some enterprise-y thing?
>>
The fusion guys deserve it honestly.

It's had memory leaks for years now and they only ever remove features.
>>
>>53766933
well, the enterprise-solutions bring in the cash.
>>
>>53762648
So fucking what? Most of VMware's sales come from enterprise client, who are using vSphere/Mirage/View.
>>
Virtualbox is such a piece of shit, I will continue using Workstation until the very end.
>>
Lets hope they open source it before abandoning.
>>

I agree with this post.

>forced to use virtualbox or qemu
I'd rather commit sudoku.
>>
>>53767268
Agree with you, but ou know, just because they abandon the product, doesn't mean it becomes unusable. Keep Workstation installed, and you're good.
>>
>>53766933
Workstation probably accounts for less than .01% of their revenue, that ebterprisey thing you mentioned, it brings in billions per year.
>>
>>53762714
VirtualBox is great, I used it for a few years, still using it, not a single problem.

for me virtualbox was buggy af and kept crashing on fresh installs of both host and guest.
nothing is more frustrating than losing the state of your machine just when you're about to make a snapshot.
i switched to vmware workstation thanks to /g/'s advice and everything Jest Werks.
also getting a serial key was surprisingly easy
