Okay /g/entards,
My Arch Linux partition will no longer let me log in for some fucking reason. Give me your arguments on what distro to put on. I want to use it for:
>light programming
>gaming
>Windows VM
Ubuntu, OpenSUSE, Gentoo idgaf I just want something that works.
>>53761682
OpenSUSE, it just werks
>>53761682
>Gentoo
This
It's your own fault and you'll make the same mistake again.
Gentoo rules, i run funtoo. Opensuse would pro;;y be the best bet for gaming (ubuntu as well but.. u kno). Opensuse is solid and i used to run it for years
>>53761682
Windows 7
>>53761730
How about a Windows VM? Trying to run Windows games w/o the shit OS
>>53761682
Well, i'm currently using arch but i think your safest bet is one of the ubuntu flavors, always use the latest LTS version and the most updated installation media to get the best hardware support.
>>53761682
Gentoo for all
>>53761757
Only visual novels would work in that, there's no hardware acceleration on gpu in a VM. Just use steam and wine. Don't expect to be able to play everything though.
>>53761792
What about PCI Passthrough? I tried to install Windows 7 on a VM with PCI Passthrough but it would get stuck at the splash screen
>>53761792
What is gpu passthru
>>53761792
Most VNs are not complicated most of them should work correctly on wine.
>>53761823
Essentially you use KVM to pass through the pci address of your GPU in your VM
>>53761828
>most VMs should work on wine
Elaborate on this
>>53761868
VN not VM
Most visual novels should work on wine.
>>53761817
If you get it working it is as good as native
>>53761682
I left for 4 months. So glad the Arch meme is dying
>>53761789
What server?
Does it have god tier old av?
>>53762660
Nostalrius - yeah it's a vanilla server.
>>53761817
getting PCI passthrough to work is a lot like playing the lottery
>>53761682
Install Ubuntu or Debian
Void Linux
It's a rolling release that just works.
>>53761682
>Bricks grub by ownself
>Can't fix
Probably crawling back to your previous babbycare OS is the best option, OP
>>53761682
Is there any reason not to use Fedora?
>>53764711
Name
>>53764766
>not wanting to shout "TIPS FEDORA" when you lose your temper with the laptop and tip it off the able onto the floor
+1 for Fedora Master Race. Shit name but stable af. Rolling release without the headache of arch updates breaking system
>>53762451
>>>53761682 (OP)
>I left for 4 months. So glad the Arch meme is dying
Arch will never die
