Why do printers still take an absurdly long time to print? It's 2016, people!

Because laser printers don't print out photos properly. A lot of boomers still want to print out photos at home for convenience even though the supplies are more expensive than going down the street to Walgreens and printing them there.
Also, inkjet printers are designed more as home decor while laser printers are often referred to as ugly white boxes.

Better yet, why are all printers generally shitty? I have never seen a printer that didn't fail on a whim, that could restart normally, that didn't jam paper. Drivers are also always shitty, filled with bloatware.
Is it really so difficult to create a properly functioning printer? Or have I just been extremely unlucky?

Paper production is fantastic at replacing the tree's it cuts down. We have huge areas of woodland that exist solely for producing paper.
