why would you care internet-badass?
>>
Do people actually pronounce it Ess-Queue-Ell?
For me it was always sequel.
>>
>>53753901

Sequel to what?
>>
It's pronounced squeal.
>>
>>53753901
It is a fucking acronym, why would you pronounce it like an existing word that makes no sense?
>>
>>53753846
Its always s queue l you mongoloids.

Why are Americans so lazy they need a one syllable sound for something already abbreviated?
>>
I think [esc-yew-el] or sequel, is mainly lreference. Or what you learn first, my SQL teacher was of the [esc-yew-el] variant so that's what I've always used.

I say Squirrel because it makes me laugh

I do, that's how my professor said it so it just stuck
kinda like how if you learn data as (day-tah) then you will say it like that for the rest of your life
>>
>>53753846
Damn it, why does this always end up in programmer discussions?

Someone must make a debate once and for all and determine how it will be pronounced for all eternity.

I declare it should be pronounced SEE QUE LEL
>>
>>53753901
I say Es Que Ell usually, but I recently heard it as Sequel. I looked it up, and both are correct.
>>
OP keep saying S.Q.L in conversations with him. Eventual his head will explode. I hate them dumb ass-hats that think them all good rocket appliances and shit.

I've always pronounced it as "Squ-ool" because my old boss pronounced it that way.

Am I an autist?
>>
im using sequel with dschawa
>>
>It's written in sequel
>It's written in S-Q-L

>We need to install MS sequel server
>We need to install MS S-Q-L server

>Run a sequel query.
>Run an S-Q-L query.
>>
>>53755398
How do you pronounce that? One or two syllables?
>>
>>53753846
>sequel
WHY?
H
Y
?

Why is this allowed? I'm not a native speaker, but this just doesn't make sense to me. I'm genuinely interested in knowing why such pronunciation is not looked down upon. If we can just insert some random vowels wherever we wish, why 'sequel' and not 'squeal' or something else? This makes me rage inside, just a little bit.
>>
>>53753901
Ess-Cue-Ell is never going to be incorrect, so that's how I do it.
>>
>>53755832
Because it's easier, and sequel is a nice two syllable phrase that ends cleanly. Squeal doesn't flow as nicely.
>>
>>53755832
It was initially called SEQUEL

Everyone with half a brain does this. I bet you call a GUI a gooey too.

I say SQL. One of my tutors pronounced it sequel. You don't pronounce CPU "ka-poo".
>>
You're the one who's retarded, I'll be you say 'fip' when referring to php, you illiterate cock smoker.
>>
>>53757430
So you say RAM as Arr-Ay-Em?
>>
>>53757541
Don't you?
>>
>>53753936
Acronyms *are* pronounced as existing words, that's the definition of a fucking acronym, it's literally where the word 'acronym' comes from: 'top [of the word]' + 'name'.
>>

Do you guys say "gooery" or "Gee-you-eye"?
>>
>>53757736
Not even kidding, a work colleague of mine used to pronounce this as En-Gincks (with a hard g, as in gate).

I never corrected him, just to see how long it would take him to realise.
>>
Windows 10 is a botnet though. As in a literal botnet, not a /g/ "botnet."
>>
I hope all you morons know it's pronounced sequel and the reason it's pronounced as such is because the sql language was originally called "sequel". They hand to give it a name change on paper for legal purposes, but it's still pronounced the same way you pronounce sequel.
>>
So wait, is Win 10 a botnet or not?
>>
>>53757860
You're both wrong, it's pronounced "En Jynx"
>>
Rule of thumb, just pronounce each individual letter if you don't want to make a fool out of youself.

Fuck right off..... properly written acronyms have periods after every letter(i.e. S.Q.L. ) and should thus be pronounced one syllable at a time.
>>
>>53753846
Technically, S-Q-L is the "official" pronunciation.

So fuck you OP.

Spl > sql
>>
>>53757598
Sorry I meant abbreviation. And now that I've looked it up, SQL ain't one.

NATO, GIMP, GNU, ISIS are acronyms because you can read them like words

PHP, SQL, ISS, IS, USA, CSS are all just letters that only a retard would pronounce as a single word.
