While I still think laser is best, what this guy said about continuous ink systems is true.
Also, HP has that new inkjet with the print head spanning the entire length of the printer; with regards to speed and cost it's just as good as laser, and you get that great color photo quality. Text is slightly less sharp and crisp, but still way better than necessary for any home use.
Just remember that any consumer printer will come with near empty cartridges.
So add the price of a (3rd party) cartridge to get your real price.

Personally I prefer laser becasue I only print occasionally.
Ink clogs the heads when you don't print for a few months.
Laser printers are still perfectly fine if you don't use them for years.

any small HP mono laser will be fine (like OP), pay more for duplex if you want but really a cheap HP mono is like £50 and will last you forever. i got a laserjet 1022 years ago and its faultless
