What does /g/ think about learning code on Codecademy?
it focuses on making you feel like a special snowflake you writing "hello world" rather than showing you that you are actually a dumbass who isn't yet capable of making programs that anyone would use
essentially, you'll end up like this guy:

it's alright
I do agree with >>53738820 but it does teach you well (in some cases) if you avoid this pitfall. I learned HTML/CSS within a week from this site and continued to learn other languages. I would only recommend it as a redundancy for learning a language. It helps as another source
Its alright but it misses a lot of stuff and i couldnt finish the python course because they are too strict on you getting the syntax the EXACT way they want it to be even if doesn't matter. and the code u write in one lesson carries over to the next lesson, so if u get stuck ur fucked. which is annoying and dumb because its impossible to find out what ur doing wrong unless u search through forums or youtube like a savage.

useless to actually learn to programming. It will teach you syntax. That's it.

read a book

Check it out, check it out OP.
If you are starting to learn a new language, do it.
You won't learn concepts, but you will learn a new languages' syntax, which is indisputably important.
Learning programming concepts without actually programming in a language will be quite an inefficient process.
Plus, a course takes ~3 hours, which in terms of time isn't really that much. Pro tip, just don't browse 4chan for 3 hours.
Codecademy gets a bad rap, but it'll teach you some valuable syntax.
wait, it's good for learning a new language? So if I'm an intermediate programmer with C++ etc, would it be a good way to learn others?
Codecademy to get the basics of the syntax down, then a book to actually learn the content of the language.

If your goal is to learn syntax quickly, try it out.

This is a really good way to do it btw.
Small Codecademy course to get the syntax down, then read some books on the language.
It's monkey see monkey do
After a few days you'll have forgotten everything
