I find a case makes it too big, although the microfibre case from the Google store is pretty good. I got it for half off, which I think is a fair price (it is somewhat overpriced at regular price)

Instead I just use a dbrand skin and tempered glass screen protector. Apparently my skin colour/pattern choice is "gay" according to /g/.

Hey guys, I'm looking to upfront buying an LG G5. But I'm on my mom's sprint plan currently with a Kyocera Rise.

My mother has bad credit, and I can't upgrade through her with my own money. So I figured I'd do this.
Sprint has crap reception out in the boonies over here, but verizon has a coverage map that looks a bit better.

Can I buy this unactivated phone, have it as a brick for the moment. Then activate it with one of the carriers when it gets here?
How would that work?
I'm in Kentucky, and pretty ignorant to all this. But I fell in love with the LG G5's modular uses.
>>
Opinions on Droid Turbo 2? I read it has great battery life and is durable.
>>
>>53737862
Droids have locked bootloaders. Good luck modding it.
>>
>>53737854
You would have to get a version of the G5 that has a CDMA radio, and even then it is a crapshoot whether Sprint will activate it on their network. Verizon is the same deal, both use CDMA. Usually you can get them to activate it, but again it needs to have a CDMA radio.

If you're on AT&T or T-Mobile the process is a lot easier, basically almost every unlocked phone is compatible and you just slap your SIM card in and you're good to go.

According to gsmarena, B&H photo is selling an unlocked version of the G5 which they claim is compatible with CDMA networks, so you might be in luck. Personally, I'd switch to a GSM carrier just because I hate CDMA and it gives you a lot more choice in your devices, but I hear the coverage in many parts of the US is worse than Verizon.

Here's the link about the B&H Photo LG G5:

You can disable stuff, I disabled like 70 bloatware apps when I had the Zenfone 2. But some stuff like "CleanMaster RAM cleaner" is built into the actual ROM and will always be one of the four shortcuts you see when you pull down the notification shade. Also you have to enable and disable the bloatware apps every time there's an update, which is usually every couple weeks although they're still(?) on 5.0 like when they launched it.

Your only recourse is to flash CM, but I hear it's buggy and the notification LED doesn't work at all (it works shittily with the stock ROM).

I sold mine and I am very happy about it, as a final "fuck you" the phone took 26 hours to do a factory reset. The guy I sold it to loves it though.

Xiaomi phones don't work with North American LTE bands like MetroPCS, this is a dealbreaker imho.

>>53738219
Camera and battery life are rather disappointing, but it's still a great phone besides that. I hear the battery life has improved with Marshmallow but I sold mine a while back. It is two and a half years old at this point, so it probably won't see an update to Android N, at least officially.

Touchwizz is more than a launcher and is basically the OS at this point.

Country: Canada
Carrier: Stick (Wind Mobile) Jump Ship (Telus)
Phone choice: No contract...budget under $700 with tax. Just need a good phone with more bang for the money like ASUS ZENFONE2 and have a micro SD slot for more space and bigger battery.

Wondering anyone from Canada here what I should go next as I don't use too much on the call and text but more in data.

I really like my Nexus 5X I purchased outright and use with Rogers for "free" spotify and NHL gamecentre.

HOWEVER, all three big carriers are greedy Jews and changed their plans so that you only save $240 ($10/month) over the course of a two year term if you bring your own phone. It used to be $480 ($20/month), which made buying the 5X and signing up for a SIM only plan make economic sense for me.

If I wasn't grandfathered in to a plan where I'm saving ~$25/month compared to a new contract plan, I'd consider getting a phone through the carrier like the HTC 10 when it comes out. Of course carrier phones have their own issues like being locked down and being stuck with the carrier for the length of the contract. It might not make as much $$$ sense anymore to bring your own phone, but at least you can choose the phone you want and you're not tied down to a specific carrier.

With Telus (or Bell or Rogers or one of their subsidiaries) you'll get LTE instead of being stuck on HSPA like you were with Wind. Which is nice.

Currently, what are the best phones for /verizon/ ?

My old as shit LG G2 is barely alive and I'm eligible for an upgrade.

Considering just going to the G5, but I'm still bitter about the audio of the G2. The hardware they used on that was shit, out of the box, the audio was WAYYYY the fuck too low, and then it breaks almost immediately. I can't listen to shit with my headphones because if I barely move a cord that's plugged in, it thinks I unplugged the headphones and audio stops playing.

Also considering the M9 since it would be $100 cheaper than the G5 and I'm sure my pet peeve with the audio wouldn't be an issue....but then it's a step back to a year old phone.

Not quite sure what to do.

So is there actually any worthy upgrade from my galaxy note 3?
I want microsd, removeable battery and stylus, and the speaker has to at least equally as good, and not on the back.
Hopefully somewhat better battery life, although I'm satisfied with 6-7 hours of onscreen time.

I'd get a note 4 but
>speaker on back
>heavier than note 3
>thicker than note 3
>taller than note 3
>shittier quality buttons than note 3
>home button doesn't stick out as much as note 3 and is thus harder to press
>stylus doesn't slide in with a satisfying motion, instead is completely smooth
>greenish tinge to either glass or the lcd panel itself?, ruining blacks compared to note 3
I've tried one, but it felt like it was barely an update and otherwise was shittier.
The Note 6 will cost too much initially and I'll likely get that as my next phone so long as it's not slippery 'muh premium feel aluminium unibody like the note 5', and doesn't remove the features I like about my 3.
>>
>>53746002
There isn't yet. Only reason I have an S6 and not my Note 3 is because I dropped it and broke the screen. Hold onto your phone for a while, it's great and there aren't enough new features to warrant a switch.

Sadly if I want 7 hours on-screen time I have to run a touchjizz rom, and even the note 5 ports are trash, so currently I'm using Resurrection Remix CM13 with idlekernel, however a new CM13 build has come out, apparently all non-touchwiz roms 5.0+ had some shitty power drain issue and I get about 4 hours on-screen time with heavy use.

I've used both amplify and greenify to make my standby battery life fantastic however, but this rom that I'm referring to being updated will become my daily driver, as xposed framework is wonderful and can replace my rom's features.
>>
>>53746068
I forgot to mention that the dev of this CM13 rom I'm referring to actually fixed the power issues, which were not just in the kernel, but the rom itself.

I'm looking for a new phone. Coming from a Note 3 which I loved I want something as good if not better. needs to have expandable memory. Would like something with a nice camera and good audio as well. What should I get?
>>
Is the SD 810 such a deal breaker?
I've really wanted a Sony phone and I was thinking of getting the z5.
>>
I wanna get a S7 but I'm worried about the battery sucking ass 2 years down the line, I'm also slightly worried about the burn-in since I would likely be keeping this phone for 2 years+. I'm thinking about the G5 too but battery life on it seems to be meh, and It seems like the "magic slot" thing would suffer from wear and tear later down the road. What do?
>>
Still waiting for my Priv to arrive, ordered last week on the 24th and its not here, damn easter weekend or maybe I should have checked my /priv/

Looking to buy V10 or maybe wait to see what the HTC 10 will be like.

I'm with Telstra in Australia. Is there an international version of the V10 that would work fine with Telstra?

Is the V10 as good as 'they' say?
>>
>>53746521
Z5 uses a revised Snapdragon 810 without overheating.
>>
>>53746878
>Is the V10 as good as 'they' say?
Yes
>>
>>53746912
Ah. That's good to hear, but why are people recommending the z5 over the premium variant?
>>
>>53746610
What's your carrier/country. If the phone insurance isn't shit (and you pay for it) then if the wear and tear is too much it should cover it. At least mine has been on Verizon here in Amerifat, my Lumia 928 has been swapped out twice because of defects.
>>
>>53746945
Money I suppose, the Z5 Premium has better battery, pixel density and more.
The only downside for some people is the size and I assume that the 4k must eat that battery like a beast.
>>
Dear /spg/, I've been offered a samsung galaxy note edge for $150AUD from a relative. I'm currently using a HTC one m7. Can I get rid of Touch Jizz somehow? I've looked at the custom ROMs and I can't find a stable stock ROM that is up to date.

just keep touchjizz. you'll lose all the edge and pen features if you use a custom rom which seems a bit stupid to me.

Dude you can buy like 7 refurbished iPhones 4s from amazon ($50) and tape them together, you will have 10,010 mah!

Seriously tho, there are better options for that price, don't get something just because the battery.
>>
I bought a Nexus 6P outright recently. It's great and all but I'm thinking of going back to iOS. I'm thinking of also downsizing to the SE and giving the 6P to my sister. Is this a good or bad idea?
>>
>>53747798
Honestly it depends on what you want out of your phone experience, though most of /g/ will probably call it a bad idea since we tend to be so partial to Android over iOS.
>>
>>53747893
I'm not going to lie. I've never been 100% satisfied with android. I don't even know why.

I also kind of want a smaller phone. As much as the display on the 6P is gorgeous, I'm very seldom taking advantage of it. I'm not obsessive and the displays on iPhones are usually immaculate.
>>
>>53747927
Take it you're not much of a ricer, then?
Android has its weaknesses, but definitely makes up for the customization and variety of hardware to chose from.

Ever go to Best Buy and play with the Galaxy S7 that just came out? It's basically the closest Android gets to an iPhone's hardware design and aesthetic.
That line of phones are definitely smaller than the average flagship phone these days.
Phones like your 6P, or the LG G4 or iPhone 6+ are all massive, or borderline phablet sized.
>>
God the lg voice mate is boring

They also have other models with removable batteries (Zenphone Laser is one, I think). You may have to shop around to get a decent price shipped to Aus.

>>53750200
even if you can look past the gigabytes of annoying bloatware, there is still the problem that you could get better hardware for the same money. Sure, they make high end phones, but the only reason people even accept these prices is because they compare it to apple, which is the king of overpriced hardware.
>>
>>53750212

It's overpriced for a reason, the camera. And then probably the build quality/looks.

You won't find a cheaper phone with the same camera or build quality.

>>
>>53751136
Do you like listening to music? The 32 gb limit will hurt you hard, you'll have to constantly worry about it not filling up. Meanwhile soon there will be 400 gb micro sd cards out and nexus phones won't be able to take advantage of it. Google's reasoning for not including an sd slot is retarded.

The Nexus 5x honestly seems like a great phone, it has like the perfect size and nice looks, but no sd slot is a huge downer.
>>
>>53751201

Walmat only sells a "SIM card kit" that comes with a couple months of service, for like $50-70, but if you're already paying for service, you can buy the SIM card alone for $0.99 from their website.

Sup /spg/.

I'm looking to replace an L80 phone my brother gifted to me a year ago with a slightly better option because my screen is cracked.

As of now i'm scavenging for a $100-$200 budget phone with decent specs and preferably 60-90 FPS capable video recording at 720p or higher. The ZTE Warp Elite seems a nice buy at $99, but i'm wondering if there's better options, because i was also considering a Moto G. What's the best Bang For Your Buck phone?
