Is it worth getting the 11" MacBook Air, or should I wait for the Retina version? I can't find a laptop of this size/specs for the price.

If there's going to be a Retina version, consider your eyes.

I'd honestly always spend a little bit extra for something where I can read shit without issues. I still have nightmares with 1680x1050 on 23''.

That said if you can't afford it, get that. Though it depends on usage, if you really just want a facebook machine everything is cheaper.
>>
It's probably gonna be refreshed and be what the new Macbook is now. So you might see a price increase. In that case then I would wait and see what happens and buy the model before the redesign if price increases happen.

OS X has become so inefficient, an Atom with Windows 10 would do more work and run smoother than an Ultrabook i5 on OS X while providing superior battery life.

Asus for Windows use only.
HP for Windows and Linux flexibility.
Also Apple really punishes you for being a poorfag, their low-tier computers are absolutely fucking garbage, if you desperately want a Mac, save up for the Retina.

No. The screen is shit. It's a glossy low-res TN display. Not worth $1,000.

Apple's entire lineup is shit at the moment, desu senpai. But if you really want a Mac, go for a rMBP. It's the only decent machine right now. The 13" model is thin and light enough to work as an ultraportable.

Not true. Macbooks are always 20-30% more expensive for the specs. Maybe they are price-competitive if you value the design highly, but not if you just look at specs.
>>
Look OP, there's only 3 things Apple does right:

-OSX (if I say "their operating system" someone may take it as iOS and no, that's not "right" nowadays)
-The best trackpads by far, there's no subjectivity around it
-rMBPs

So if it's not one of those, don't buy.

You could also get the trackpad separately, and OSX in a normal computer just without facetrash so whatever really
>>
>>53732440
You're welcome to link a machine with the same or better specs of a 13 inch $1299 rMBP at a better price
>>

It is true. XPS13, MBPr 13", E7450, T450 are all within them same price range +- ~$150.
And that while the Macbook has a 16:10 panel, PCIe storage and has by far the best trackpad on the market.
I don't see how that is a bad value when you are shopping for highend laptops.

In 2000 fucking 16. So just no. The 11" Air was always the worst Macbook but now with Retina Macbook for almost the same price (if you go for same spec) it's downright retarded.

Retina Macbook got much better screen, is lighter and SMALLER while having a bigger screen. Performance and battery life are pretty close. Also it got better speakers.

You can adjust both.

Clearly never used it.

Clearly doesn't understand laptops either. Macbook is pretty unique since it combines HiRes screen with small and light hardware. rMBP is one of the few ultraportables that use 28W CPU and pretty hard to beat at the price point too. This is assuming you're just looking for a laptop. Once you count in 16:10 screens and superior trackpads, there is nothing at all left.
>>

Not him, but adjust the top bar? I can only see that happening with changing the resolution.

Not that anon, but it's common sense. Why would you want a core m CPU that throttles itself to sub-GHz clocks when doing something remotely CPU intensive with it? A newer Celeron or Atom will give you the same performance and user experience for 25% of the price.
>>

I used one before I switched to an ipad. It was a brilliant "facebook machine", I never had even one browser crash. Well actually I still use it for porn and torrents. The OS is very tidy and I much prefer it to Windows, even though I love windows 10.

On a semi-related note, my ipad is a bit locked down and it annoys me sometimes when I can't do things, but the app store has better apps, and the fingerprint scanner is great. Still wouldn't recommend it though desu, way too expensive for what you get. Next time I'll be buying a samsung or a windows tablet or something. Just thought I'd try it given that I love my macbook.

That's just not the case. Core M is way closer to i5 than all the Atom and Celeron trash and only throttles when you put constant and heavy load on it. Say benchmarks, editing video or .... playing tasking games. Clearly the tasks people buy an ultrabook for.

>>53732627

>Clearly never used it.
You don't have to use it to know the specs are shit. Mediocre battery life, terrible performance, and no connectivity are both OBJECTIVE problems that you never have to see the machine to understand.

But I have used it, so I can speak to the subjective qualities as well. The keyboard is god-awful. One micron of key travel is not enough and the layout is not good. The touchpad is fine, but "Force Touch" is a major downgrade.

>small and light hardware
I said that design is a factor I hadn't accounted for. For the SPECS, Macbooks are always overpriced. If you value the design highly, they may be worth it.
>>
>>53732681
>That's just not the case. Core M is way closer to i5 than all the Atom and Celeron trash and only throttles when you put constant and heavy load on it. Say benchmarks, editing video or .... playing tasking games. Clearly the tasks people buy an ultrabook for.

So, if gaming, productivity and media creation are out of the question because that's what throttles the Core M CPU then what's left? Exactly: facebook browsing and using an office suite. Something a Celeron + SSD will handle perfectly fine.

>>
>>53732991
>I'll use it mostly for muh coding and I'll probably carry it around alot.
You'll want a robust laptop with a decent keyboard.
For the small budget get a refurb thinkpad (e.g. T420, 430, 440 or X220, 230, 240 if you want something smaller. Note the shitty display on the 12" one. Also the *40 series have shitty trackpads by default, but they can be replaced.)
If you want to get something new look at the current thinkpad models (*50/*60, agian X/T series), Latitude E5450/5470, Latitude E7450/E7470, XPS13, Elitebook 820/840. Cant recommend 12" Dells, they are loud as fuck.
>>

You take your latop in a bag, go wherever you wanna go, put your laptop in a table or your legs and use it.
You put your phone out of your pocket to check what time is it, you write a message holding your phone with your bare hands.
Do you write an essay with your laptop holding it in the air? No. You don't use it the same way so your logic it's the one that fails here.

Also I'm not saying that less weight it's uselles, it's just that I don't consider the weight of a laptop something to think too much about

i7 in laptops are shit, at least in somewhat portable ones.
Either its a ULV i7, in that case its just an overpriced i5, or its a i7m, in which case it is hot, power hungry and will throttle anyways if you need the additional performance.
Similar thing goes for GPUs, depending on your needs a Skylake IGP might be enough for you, those things are actually pretty insane.

Pretty much better than the macintrash in every way.

10/10 build quality
Aluminum chassis + carbon fiber surfaces
Soft edges that don't slit your wrists every time you rest your hands on it to type like macbooks
Doesn't overheat and throttle to 800mhz
Same weight
Same bottom bezel size as macs, but top and side bezels almost eliminated
Gets better battery life since it's not running the abomination that is OSX

The 13" MBPr has more battery life than the 1080p XPS13
