Is debian still good?
Im installing my first linux machine soon and I planned on using this OS but I heard the head dev died and sjws took over or something. Should I use fedora instead?
Here's a cool wp for your help
Dude install gentoo like all the other hackers on here
> first linux machine
> noobian
Top kek, save yourself some time and install gentoo

Yea, you can get really mad for not understanding gentoo as a first time linux user, or u can go for ubuntu, mint, and almost anything else, but not gentoo. Give gentoo a go after u get used to linux. Or be me, get linux on a server and keep win10 on ur personal laptop (ubuntu in VM too tho)
Debian is definitly not recommended for beginners as a desktop distro
SJW took over partly with the fanatism about GNU
plus old ancient packages
try xubuntu as your first linux OS
its light and comfy, with huge support coming from being ubuntu based
and you get loads of customization
another alternative is manjaro, which is Arch based, but for normal people who like "it just works"

>Is debian still good?
Yes, unless you don't like systemd.
>Im installing my first Linux machine.
Debian may be a little too advanced. Try Ubuntu first, as a stepping stone.
>I heard the head dev died
Ian was the founder, and isn't the DPL for a long time. See https://www.debian.org/devel/leader for more information.
>and sjws took over or something.
That's a /g/ meme.
Should I use fedora instead?
If you want, sure. Different philosophies does not make one better or worse.
See https://www.debian.org/social_contract
And https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Foundations
You decide.
debian wont even boot on my pc. ubuntu installed but it ran like shit. vanilla debian, kali and mint wouldnt get past the boot selection.

Debian is mainly free, even its kernels are[1]. Try the firmware[2] images for non-free drivers and packages.

Wrong.
It >>>IS<<< Ubuntu through and through. Not that this is a bad thing, I just feel a need to correct you because Xubuntu is just Ubuntu shipped with Xfce instead of Unity, it's still maintained by Canonical.
Mint, on the other hand, is >based on< Ubuntu.
Xubuntu or Ubuntu for office and basic tasks
Gentoo maybe if you know what you want
After those, progress to Mint (if it becomes unbotnet) or Fedora
Then Arch

To simplify, you just meant to say that's it's the other way around. Ubuntu is based on Debian.
Linux Mint is based on Ubuntu, sure, but mind you their LMDE release is based directly on Debian.

Mint with cinnamon
