What does /g/ think of btrfs? Does anybody use it? Is it better than ext4?
I don't use it.
I don't think it's good.
I don't think it's good that you keep creating those threads, also.
/g/ is split about, just like pretty much everything else.
I do, for my Raid 1.
It has its strengths. I feel better using ext4 on my boot drive, though.
been use it for /home for a few years already.
reason is, i need the file compression and saving more disk space on my notebook.
never have problem starting with kernel 4.2
earlier kernel do have bugs but luckily, reboot solve the problem.

I use it on my phone and it works great.
I use native btrfs raid6 on my NAS. It's production-ready provided you have a recent kernel. It outperforms ZFS and dm-raid for me. I think it is better than ZFS, but opinions differ.
It is much better than ext4, because checksums.
I use btrfs on / and my backups/
/@root (mounted as /)
/snapshots
/snapshots/root-$(date)

I set up Raid 1 with a pair of Btrfs drives a couple of years or so back, with the intention of converting it to Raid 5 when I need extra space. Btrfs Raid 5/6 was experimental back then, so it's nice to hear anecdotes supporting my assumption that it would shape up.

ZFS
zfs or btrfs - what are the pros and cons for raid1 nas use of both?
literally no use for snapshots unless you're in an enterprise/research environment
I've been using it for a few years now. I use it for the raid functions, which ext4 doesn't have. Can't say which is better, it's worked for me so far.

neat. We use dmraid a shitload at work because customers get dedis with software raid. Haven't tried using btrfs's raid, maybe I should set somebody up with it
>>53730864
I like my data, so I don't use filesystems that aren't production ready.
If I didn't give a rats' ass about GPL vs CDDL when it comes to software I use, I'd be happy about it. But I don't, and right now it's inferior to ZFS and if it ever becomes good enough for production, it will at best be as good as ZFS.

my wife's black son from an infidelity I've forgiven her for uses it and says it's pretty good
>>53730864
half-assed clone of ZFS, unmergeable into linux because of GNU/RMS bullcrap
tryhard wannabes use it
worserer than ext4
>>53731705
Nah it's pretty handy. Much easier to just rollback instead of trying to fix a borked update or something.
>>53730864
I use btrfs on everything, no problems
No fsck is nice
>>53732982
your package manager can also roll back to a stable version
Btrfs has insecure subling.
>>53730864
just a decade-late reinvention of ZFS, which itself is largely a rehash of ideas of Reiser3/4.
