Wrong 'nome, lad.

So, I want to upgrade my gaymen PC and have a budget of around 850EURO. Thing is, I don't really want to get a GPU now, will wait for Polaris/Vulcan faggotry to finally be up and running, and then jump either on NEW GEN or get something OLD GEN, but hopefully cheaper.
CPU - 6600K
Motherboard - Fatal1ty Z170 Gaming K4
Case - Define S
PSU - EVGA SuperNOVA 650 G2
HDD/SSD I have from the old system.
CPU Cooler - 212 EVO by CM
RAM - 2x8GB Kingston Hyper X African-American.
What would be better choices here?

keked

Cooler won't do you any good for real overclocking. Maybe a small boost, not much more

Also poor motherboard choice. I'd recommend MSI
>>
>>53718242
unplug everything and reduce the length of the cable to be only as long as you need it.
like that one with the blue ribbon.

I'm using velcro cable ties for that.

Zip ties.

Make a PCpartpicker list with your parts.

Change HSF for a NH-U12S.

Cooler is just for keeping shit cool, not much else. As for motherboard - please be more specific. What is wrong with this one and what would you recommend instead?

I wouldn't trust Asrock for a motherboard, simply because there are better ones on the market.

Hi! I just bought a new setup and I'm in quite the pickle. The onky thing I kept from my old build is the HDD.

Now, whenever I boot up, I get 2 choices, repair windows or boot as usual. The repair is unable to detect the problem and booting normally gives me a BSOD with STOP:0x0000007B.

I F8'd that mofo and booted in safe mode, but the ssme BSOD appears.

I F8 again, go into repair, but it doesn't recognize my password. After 4 failed tries, it's an automatic reboot.

What do you guys think is the problem? Did I fry my HDD?

>>53720164
But I also want a good GPU since I can't run Fallout 4 and other games at extreme settings. My current monitor is good, but since I'm trying to get a better GPU/CPU, it doesn't make sense to have a 60Hz HD monitor.

Also for some reason, my PC seems to consume a shitload of power. I think it might be because of the 8 cores on the CPU.

Why is Chrome soooo much faster than Firefox? Even on basic shit like searches, Firefox takes seconds longer to load. Is there bloat in it that I don't know about?
>>
>>53720329
are you using a fresh empty profile on both for comparison?
>>
T/3/apot here

I'm thinking to build a rendering machine. When shopping a CPU, are there different architectures that are designed to handle specific workloads? Since rendering is very demanding and requires that power for about 30+ hours I don't want to get something that is meant for gaming and potentially ruin it faster than it could.
>>
>>53720342
Yes. I've also tried offspins like Pale Moon, which is perfect for me, but I cannot stand the obnoxious fucking loading times and keep coming back to the Botnet.
>>
>>53720329

the bloat is having shitty addons or old profiles that have had shitty addons

other than that, it's almost purely the placebo of chrome starting up faster (a legit problem with firefox, but none of you idiots close your browsers ever hence all the whining about memory leaks) as well as rendering pages slightly "faster" by not waiting for the near complete page before starting to display etc - a well documented psychological effect
>>
>>53720248
>I'm gonna slowly buy all the components
That's a dumb idea. For some of them it's fine, but CPU, GPU, and mobo you need to choose and get all at once. Those are the things that have lots of compatibility issues.

It wont be twice as fast, twice as expensive? sure.
You will see 10-20% better perfomance but thats it.

Twice performance were when they were rumored to use HBM2, they got confirmed that they will use GDDR5 again recently.
>>
>>53720503
Not really concerned about CPU being replaced. As you said, Skylake is new so I can last with the same CPU for a while. My main concern is GPU since there seems to be upgrades quite often.
>>
>>53720509
Go to logicalincrements.com and look at the "Exceptional" tier. Just the GPU, CPU, and mobo should come up to about $1000. It's not actually twice as fast, that's marketing bullshit. There's perfectly good hardware available right now to get the best value for your budget.

Kind of but not really. Only if I'm going to use it for rendering.
>>
>>53720527
Not a whole lot you can do then, assuming you didn't fuck up somehow trying to update the drivers. Find out all the model information for your audio device and try to get drivers from the manufacturer's website. Failing that, try the laptop manufacturer's customer support. If that doesn't work, yeah, maybe a clean install will help, though there's a good chance it's broken hardware.

If it's broken hardware, get a cheap ass usb soundcard from Amazon and use that until you're ready to buy a new laptop.

a windows manager is more lightweight, so obviously you'll gain performances. About customizability, most windows manager permits you to customize most stuff on your screen unlike a DE, that usually just permits you to modify the themes and other small stuff.
So yes, there's reasons to switch.
Then it's a matter of taste. I don't like windows managers. I don't like spending hours to get everything as I want, and prefer using a DE that can be customized easily for the most basic stuff

On Firefox w/ no extensions, hardware acceleration on/off frame rate is very poor on low-high settings.

>>
>>53722817
It shouldn't change at all, pngs are lossless, meaning whatever image data you give them is the same image data you get out. The file itself can change (e.g. the compression level, location data, etc.), but the graphics displayed will not be changed by the act of saving an image. This is unlike jpg, which will change the contents of an image, in order to make compression more efficient.

I wouldn't reccommend Apple or the thinkpad's r or x series because they're hard to mess with hardware-wise (too many things are not replaceable or hard to reach, being computers designed to be as compact as possible) so if you want to learn about hardware or whatever go for the T or W series.

If you want to play only with software, then any of those initial alternatives you had are good enough. Just be aware about performance limitations and choose the one that fits your needs.
