Ah, ok. What's the advantage of using a tiling WM if you're just going to have all the windows floating most of the time then? Just the flexibility to tile them if you feel like it?

Did you miss the point of the post

It isn't a tiling WM, it's a dynamic WM. It's made for both tiling and floating, whatever you feel like at the time. I use awesome because of its exstensibility and structure of config. But yes, it's also helpful to be able to tile occasionally.

Sorry, I get you now. The only experience I've had with non compositing window managers is when I briefly installed i3, and I saw that being compared to awesome a lot so I assumed they would be similar.

I'll have to check out awesome some time though, it looks interesting.
>>
How do I into a (tiling) wm that forces rice config? Or do you guys really float your windows into their location?

You probably don't have multiple sound channels enabled. Either use pulseaudio and pulseaudio-alsa or setup alsa to do it.

i3 is a lot better at tiling since it's designed for user control instead of predifined layout/tag switches, as is dwm and bspwm. They aren't very similar but are both the standard in their areas imo (tiling/dynamic) as is openbox for floating.

That's to avoid spam. Ideally you'd have a bot limit the amount of posts made within a certain time on IRC to prevent spam too.

I'm posting from a toshiba Chromebook 2 right now and it is amazing for it's price. Linux is able to be installed as well in Crouton or on the metal.

>Intel Celeron dual core
>1080p 13.3" screen
>Great keyboard
>3 cell battery
>"Skullcandy" tuned audio. (gimmick but the speakers DO sound great)
>16gb SSD
>USB 3.0 and 2.0 port. SD slot (I have a 128gb MicroSD in mine)
>HDMI out

I paid $250 brand new.
>>
>>53719286
Well that goes without saying
>>
>>53719254
I know what that is for, and I don't want to remove it from 4chan, I just mentioned it makes using this as a "chatroom" a bit uncomfortable.

Also IRC Bots check how much you've posted and ban/kick your for it afterwards instead of putting a timer before you can post again, most of the time.

Same here. Firefox is just slower in general too, so that's the only reason why I still use Googlebotnet. I have shitty internet, and it looks like Chrome just saves the pages I visit everyday into the cache and loads them really fast.

well I don't use my laptop for anything intensive anyway. All my heavy lifting is done on my desktop. Figured because you mentioned the pixel, you'd be fine with Chromebooks in general. What are you doing on your laptop?
>>53719321
I'll give you the Celeron and 16gb SSD. While they do suit me fine, they are bottom tier, but 1080p is more than perfect for a laptop. Anything above that, especially at 13.3" is a placebo and a battery drain.
>>
>>53719321
>>53719319
Not him, but what else would you get? A friend of mine was about to buy a cheap ass laptop for 300, then I heard Intel Celeron and I was laughing my ass off. Then I checked and every cheap laptop had an Intel Celeron. What in the fuck.
>>
>>53719299
Except the 16GB SSD and that Skullcandy thing, it sounds nice.
>>
>>53719360
>placebo

>battery drain
yes
>>
>>
>>53719360
High DPI isn't placebo

>>53719364
I wouldn't buy a $300 laptop. For as much time as I spend with computers, I need a machine I'm happy with in every way. No compromises.
>>
>>53719378
for the price point, any ssd in a new laptop is unheard of. Everything in the sub $300 range doesn't even come close to the build quality of this thing, let alone come with an SSD or 1080p panel. And like I mentioned, although the Skullcandy tuned audio is a gimmick, the speakers are very loud and has decent bass as well. There is no crazy obnoxious logo for Skullcandy either. Just a tiny one on the bottom right of the laptop where you rest your palm.
>>
>>53719360
not that guy, but if it has a celeron I might as well just replace the fans and panel in my x61 and keep using that for cheaper. I don't do anything intensive but I still easily push this thing to 100% several times a day.

>but 1080p is more than perfect for a laptop. Anything above that, especially at 13.3" is a placebo

lmao @ u
>>
>>53719364
depends on what your friend is using the laptop for. I know Lenovo has the G50 I think it is for like $280. It has an AMD A8 quad core in it.

But yea, pretty much every entry level cheap laptop has a dual core celeron or oddball quad core Pentium in it. You need $400+ usually to start seeing core i3s.

If your friend is using the laptop for very casual use, the Celeron is fine. For me it is able to handle 1080p streams and play blu-rays with zero problems. Doesn't even hit 20% load when streaming a movie and having multiple tabs open at once.

>>53719409
eh I guess. I personally haven't had need or actual use out of a 4k screen on a laptop. I just see it as battery drain. But I won't judge. As for $300 laptop, I merely mentioned mine because of you talking about the Pixel.

Why not consider the Dell XPS 13/15? They come with very nice almost bezel-less screens and offer 4k panels. Dell even has an Ubuntu version so they're bound to play nice with various Linux OS.
>>
>>53719494
I dunno matey I have an 11" laptop at 1366x768 and while I'd like it to be 1440x900 I think 1080p is the maximum that would actually be useful
>>
>>53719502
If price is moot, I'll answer your original question again: I'd get a Mac
>>
>>53719429
if you're pushing a first gen i5/i7 to 100% load, then you're doing intensive tasks and no, the Celeron would not suit you well. I literally use this machine for school work, movies, web browsing, and movie streaming. None of this moves the CPU to even 50%. People don't give enough credit to the little baby Celerons but they've come a long way.
>>
>>53719556
This has a Centrino in, and it hits 70% load with a youtube video.
>>
post quality is placebo
>>
>>53719556
wait what never mind. I didn't see the x61 came with Core2duos. I was thinking X201.
>>
>>53719592
Spoken like someone who's never authored a high-quality post in their life
>>
>>53719572
so then maybe it IS time for an upgrade? As I mentioned earlier, even my celeron-3215U clocked at a measly 1.7ghz barely feels streaming Youtube 1080p 60fps video with other tabs open.

I'm not saying get Chromebook, just anything newer really. Even a used T420 or something. Or if you really love the X line, maybe a X201 or X220.
