the test is already invalid. they always test each card at its stock settings without boost and no 970 comes without a boost (reference) or atleast a 200mhz overclock (vendor cards).
the 390 by default is an overclocked 290 so its already an unfair comparison. if they really wanted to do stock vs stock they should do 970 vs 290.
