the 970 is currently $100 cheaper than any decent R9 390 in the stores near me.
I don't want to fall for the 3,5 meme but i don't want to spend $100 extra either.

970 is the most future proof gpu release of all time. It's card that was released during the industry transition from 1080p to 4k, which is why it will be good for 1080p for such a long time.

You're delusional if you think current AMD cards have proper async, they can't even do proper parallelism without shiting themselves.
Stop falling for the marketing, full async support will come with the next generation cards.
Current generation cards will only see small performance gains from using async.
If you want to hear excuses about how Nvidia fucked your performance in yet another game then go for AMD.
If you want working GPU then go for Nvidia
