Google killed the competition abusing its position as the top search engine.
They don't need to improve or innovate to grow any more, so why would they waste resources on it?

Incidentally, I switched from a 4790K to a Phenom II this week because I'm selling the former and Chromium performs exactly the same, whilst SeaMonkey is noticably less snappy. The one issue is that Chromium forces VP9 on Youtube and that murders the Phenom II. Usage in the 60% range with a simple 1080p/60fps video, whereas it's ~7-8% with AVC in SeaMonkey.
