Does anyone here use Google Cardboard to watch movies on those VR theatres? It's literally the #1 thing I want VR for, and as a Nexus 5 user getting Gear VR would be a bit of a leap.

Has anyone here used a Nexus 5 (or any 5" 1080p phone) + Google Cardboard to watch movies? Is it comfortable at all?

I want to try something cheaper to see if VR movie theatres are even cool, before I sign a 24 month contract for an S6 Edge and buy a Gear VR.

Google cardboard is pretty bad for watching movies.
It is uncomfortable as fuck and can't be adjusted if ur eyesight is shit. Plus the 1080p resolution of the nexus 5 is a bit too low and the screen door effect is much more noticeable and distracting when watching movies.
Even with the GearVR with s7e it's noticeable, but not that bad.
Maybe with a custom cardboard enclosure with nice padding n straps it would be useable, but definitely not with the basic diy kit.

t. Have cardboard with N5 and GearVR with S7e

It's hard to be immersed in it because it's so blurry. And the headset isn't very comfortable either. It'd be better to just watch your movies in real life.

Would you say GearVR was worth it? Would just watching movies on it alone make it worth the +$100?

I really want to just lay back in my bed and watch stuff on a theatre sized screen.

I got it for free with the preorder but ya it's definitely worth it.
I've used it for hours straight with no discomfort.
Only thing is that when there is downtime in a movie you start noticing the pixels and dust on the lens but that's about it.
It's very /comfy/ to lay in bed and watch netflix

Does the VR theatre properly convey scale? Like, do you really feel like you're in a theatre looking at a massive screen? Do the people and objects on the screen look huge in front of you?
>>
>>53711222
Yes it does. Some apps have selectable environments like home theatre, movie theatre etc and they do feel completely different, even though the actual video screen size is roughly the same.

You have to be actually sitting for those types of theatres though. If you want to lay down you have to use void theatre which basically is a (resizeable) screen surrounded by nothingness.

Its surprisingly good. I let my friends try it out it was funny as fuck to watch them lose their shit

Have you tried 360 panoramic porn for VR? Watching on a big screen is cool but that's something else. Any POV stuff?

Cough, female POV? Cough cough.
>>
>>53711222
Yeah it's exactly like the theatre except that it completely fills your vision instead of only 2/3 of it like at the theatre and you don't have to deal with crying babies and retard teenagers trying to impress their friends by yelling at the screen.

>female POV
Oh god yis.

Guys what application do you use? Cmoar is good and it has dynamic lighting but its buggy at the moment. Im trying cineveo right now.

I have 1280x720 screen, but i guess it may be pretty fucking awesome on one of those modern 6" 4k cinema hd imax edition overkill data processing rectangles.

Also, due to poor responsiveness by concept, you won't really "feel like in cinema". Still, i guess it's worth a try, i mean it costs $5 anyway, it's worth a try even i f you don't give a fuck about VR at all.

>scale
Yes, you can really feel the size in VR, even in cardboard. I still can't get over this "1:1" feeling in HL2 when i rented Rift DK2, everything was just so huge.
