Who else on /g/ hasn't succumbed to all the mindless paranoia and hate to realize that Windows 10 is the most decent operating system as of 2016. I've had 0 problems with it so far, and it comes with some pretty good new features.
>>
>>53710471
Yeah man I have been using Windows 10 since the beta and it's nothing but free and great. I'm really starting to like the new Microsoft.
>>
>>53710471
All the spyware bs is made up and way overblown. Windows 10 doesn't spy on people any more than Facebook and Google do. I think it's pretty funny how people cry about Microsoft wanting to gather a small amount of info about their computer while they go ahead and upload all their info on social media.

I don't normally like to post opinions, especially negative ones, on the front page. In this case, I can't resist, as this bastardization of Windows makes me quite angry. Having used every version of Microsoft's operating systems since 1988 (MS-DOS 5.0), this is the first time I truly believe that Microsoft has lost its way. To put it bluntly, Windows 10 is a mish-mash of interfaces, and in some cases borderline deceptive options, mainly to serve Microsoft's dubious ambitions in the mobile device arena, rather than consumers and businesses. It will only serve to further confuse and alienate the average PC user, and hasten the PC's demise. I've used Windows 10 as my daily OS since the Preview back in January 2015, and I can honestly say it seems like one step forward, four steps back when compared to Windows 7.
>>
>>53710493
Yeah for real it's strange. All the telemetry in Windows 10 can be disabled anyway. I don't know what all those paranoid crybabies are even whining about.

It's always something.

It isn't about whether it's better or not, it's about choice. MS is forcing their customers to use Windows 10, even if they don't want to. It's not different from what North Korea do with Red Star OS, it doesn't matter if it's good or not, you'll have to use it anyway or else.

>>

Stop making stuff up and regurgitating whatever the other retarded paranoid tools told you. Windows 10 doesn't have any of those things, it's the most secure Windows version yet.
>>
>>53710587
>more secure

Um, sorry, this is pure BS. Windows 10 offers exactly zero new protection mechanisms to the end user vs. Windows 7. I haven't forgotten that Windows 8/10 apps run a sandbox and they are all verified by Microsoft, that's true, but most of them are made purely for content consumption (so they won't cut it for power users), besides people will still download executables from the Internet and run them relentlessly. Normally you should never run Windows without a decent antivirus installed (Microsoft Security Essentials is not an AV your can rely on, in fact you're crazy if you believe it protects you). Head to av-comparatives and check out their real world tests to see what's best for you. According to various AV comparisons MS Secruity Essentials misses over 10% of in-the-wild viruses (i.e. over five hundred new viruses every day).

The truth is there are some new security features but they are invisible for most users out there.
>>
>>53710587

Who, Microsoft or Kim Jong-un? I'm pretty sure they both say exactly the same.

Stop copy pasting stuff dumbass. You never heard of applocker, smartscreen filter, tamper protection, cloud windows defender, and the new updates system to make sure you aren't vulnerable. Windows was fine before mass surveillance OS 10 came out. Sorry, but spyware 10 is replacable
>>
Honestly I upgraded because I usually do about this point and I've made the transition painlessly and gained a lot of benefits.

My room mate has an Xbone so I can stream Halo 5 to my PC and supposedly W10 is going to have native Xbone support at some point but I don't even know if that's really official.

Got a virus a few months back that was bad enough that programs couldnt fix it and neither could I so I used some system restore tool thats included but since the install was still somewhat fresh it wasnt much of an issue really. Super fast on an SSD too.

a while back, my pc was upgraded to Win10 without my consent.
initially, I was angry. Until the night my house caught fire. I was sound asleep when suddenly I heard my name being called out... it was Cortana! Somehow, my Win10 pc knew there was a fire and it alerted me to the danger! Not only did Cortana warn me of the fire, but it told me the best way to exit the house safely.

I would be dead now if not for Windows 10!

Thanks, Windows 10!

Only problem I had with windows 10 was after official release, had problem with audio driver - but they fixed it quickly - ever since then compared to 8.1 everything improved, especially noticed more frames in games like gta V with same graphical settings.

But what if I don\t have social media, I use fake details everywhere and I have kinda no private data on computer? Why would I want Microsoft to get little data?

Gimp is like paint for autists.

Drivers for linux especially proprietary ones are not in focus of hardware developers, they designated janitors teams to eventually create sole shitty drivers that will release years late.

And about games, I don't quit care desu.

It's best to - re-install your OS every few months when you use LTSB N becuase there are Iso's provided on internet with feature updates and most security updates integrated in them, just back up your software on another partition to save time. And you'll only spend 1 - 2 hours debloating and installing drivers.

>>
>>53710471
I think most people agree that Windows 10 is pretty good except for two key problems :
Privacy issues. Yes people use Facebook and shit, but that's entirely different. Facebook is a service you use when you feel like it, an operating system is something you use for literally everything on your computer. You have literally no freedom to choose what information gets stolen from you. On Facebook you wouldn't talk about Porn, for example. And about android and stuff, well there's plenty people here who jailbreak their phone because muh freedom.

The second problem is forced updates for everything, this can be a problem for people with slow Internet (not everyone lives in the city, or even in the first world) and I've heard of driver updates that break peoples computers. Happened to a guy I know at college.

Tbqh, when Windows 10 came out and my old windows 7 computer died, I upgraded to Linux.

>it comes with some pretty good new features
Absolutely.
For the first time, my Windows® desktop can have the same lockscreen as my Windows® phone (if I had one).
I never would have even thought of putting a lockscreen on a desktop computer, so I have to click on the screen before I can enter my password to unlock it. It's absolutely visionary. And it keeps me from acidentally unlocking my desktop computer while it's in my pocket.
Given how universally helpful the feature is, I can see what a wise dcision Microsoft® made by ensuring that it cannot be disabled except by manually editing the registry.
I also like it how every other time I use the Calculator™, Windows 10® gives me a helpful reminder to leave a review in the Store™ so that other people can know what a useful app it is. What a great sense of community!
>>
>>53721892

I'm going to buy two copies of Windows Home next month. Telemetry data doesn't bother me at all and I'm not doing anything illegal anyway. Its kinda required by my God.

I'm using Windows 7 but the netcode on this operating system kinda sucks and I'd like better security too. I'm using Bitdefender at the moment but my copy can be transferred to Windows 10.

I also use Google Chrome. I seriously don't see the issue with it. Its fast and the addons work well now.

I have to install drivers for graphics to work.
Costs 100$ so poor fag me can't buy it

i have a dvd that has an ISO with every copy of windows 7 on it but I don't have a DVD drive in my new laptop. i would probably dual boot Windows 7 and Windows 8 until I make sure Windows 7 works with everything, then delete the W8 install

what do?

Someone posted that shit in a /v/ thread weeks ago and I neglected to save the URL.
>>

simple answer: they don't.
and since even the enterprise versions as of right now don't allow for shutting off the phoning-home-shit, no IT department in any serious company touches win10 with a ten foot pole right now. everybody is clinging to win7 or 8.1 at a max, but 7 is still the most popular.

i work in a 100k employees company. got a new laptop not long ago, it had a sticker saying "Windows 10" but, alas, the IT department had fitted it with win7.
