If you want the seminars go straight to revision youtube channel.

well I had no idea what this was until I checked

>Revision is the world's biggest pure Demoscene event with visitors from more than 30 countries!

and for those who don't know
>The Demoscene considers itself as a loose connection of creative minds with passions of creating digital art. A 'demo' is created by groups of people, or sometimes single individuals, to DEMOnstrate their skills. The traditional skill base of the demoscene is considered to be coding, music, and design.

fucking weaboos
jk bruh it was amazing

Executable Music competition is starting now
>>
modern graphics in 5 minutes.

Network maintenance in the meantime so stand by.
>>
Also if you want the actual executables instead of just youtube videos they'll show up on
https://files.scene.org/browse/parties/2016/revision16/
and
http://www.pouet.net/party.php?which=1550&when=2016
eventually.

I highly recommend checking out Darkness Lay Your Eyes Upon Me by Conspiracy and Fermi Paradox by Mercury from the PC 64K intro compo if your PC can run them.
>>
Thats it for now
Streaming Music compo starts in 1h
>>
They put up a twitch stream
twitch.tv revisionparty
>>
>>53713422
thank fucking god for that.
90% of them are in the gaming industry and didn't though to stream it directly to twitch.
I swear to god we were discussing this with them on irc.
Dumb fucks
>>
4K executable graphics compo is starting.
>>
>>53713510
that may be against twitch's TOS. their focus is on live streaming games. a local event was bitten by this, and the stream shut down
>>
>>53709737
Tell me when something beats fr-041 debris :^)
No but seriously, is there anything that's surpassed that? That was one of the first demos I watched and I was absolutely blown away that they could do that with such a small file size.
>>
>>53714331
I still think Elevated is the greatest file limited demo/intro so far.

>>53714357
*file size limited
>>
Dumb question, but these 64K exes (etc) - does that filesize include APIs or are these exes talking directly to the GPU?
>>
>>53714412
They're allowed to use any system libraries available on the target system.
>>
>>53714437
Ah. These are still impressive though. I haven't followed the demoscene since the 90's.

>Watches video

Holy shit what the fuck. The fact that this is possible makes me want to learn more math and low-level programming.
>>
>>53714437
which is pretty much just directX
>>
Have Andromeda, CNCD & Fairlight already presented something?
>>
Wild demo compo coming up next. I hope lft has done something cool again this year.
>>
>>53714437
Depends on the compo, regular demos just have to include their dlls. In 64kb and 4kb you are only allow to only use libraries that natively are supported by Windows. Nothing extra. Maybe the newest nvidia driver at best.

You should tell us cool stuff about making them.

Just post stuff. Most of us here don't even know where to begin with fitting intros in 4KB so you should be confident.

Post source code (snippets).

Ray marching is easy and fun, writing rendering code is fun. I wrote a marcher with a few features in a couple months (could've been done in a week or two if done intensively). Grab iq's framework and start hacking, it's surprisingly not THAT hard to put a decent amount of content into 4 kilobytes. I made this as a process of learning all of that in a few months working on it on and off: https://www.pouet.net/prod.php?which=66059

iq's 4k system: http://www.iquilezles.org/code/isystem1k4k/isystem1k4k.htm
my modifications: https://github.com/armak/pbr-introsystem (work in progress)

>>53715181
Here's the shader code to the intro above: http://pastebin.com/38eNDUi4

Basically does all the visuals as well as contains all animation and camera movement.
>>
>>53715226
By the way that's the MINIFIED shader source. My code was appropriately really hacked together, but not quite THAT unreadable. While finalizing the intro I accidentally overwrote the original source with the minified one and only noticed days after the fact. I sort of know what the code does but have difficulty recognizing which functions are which exactly...

The functions that look like this do some form of tracing (marching), be it primary, secondary or shadow rays (this is the second reflection bounce):
vec3 Z(vec3 v,vec3 s)
{
vec3 m=vec3(0.);
float f,i;
f=i=0.;
for(int g=0;g<30;++g)
{
m=v+f*s;
i=F(m);
f+=i;
if(20.<f||abs(i)<x)
break;
}
return F(m,f);
}

The ones at the top are either utility stuff (interpolation, rotations) or geometry definitions. The lower half has the rendering code. Bottom one is main that defines the cameras and processes and outputs color.

This function contains the reflective geometry, including all animation (the mix() and smoothstep() functions):

float c(vec3 v)
{
vec3 s=floor(v),f=fract(v);
f=f*f*(3.-2.*f);
float x=s.x+s.y*57.+113.*s.z;
return mix(mix(mix(w(x),w(x+1.),f.x),mix(w(x+57.),w(x+58.),f.x),f.y),mix(mix(w(x+113.),w(x+114.),f.x),mix(w(x+170.),w(x+171.),f.x),f.y),f.z);
}
float z=1.5-smoothstep(151.,199.,v),d=pow(smoothstep(151.,199.,v),2.),r=1.+9.*smoothstep(-100.,100.,-v),e=smoothstep(208.,228.,v),g=smoothstep(254.,260.,v),o=smoothstep(331.,340.,v),t=smoothstep(40.,80.,v),a=pow(smoothstep(101.,105.,v),.5),l=1.-smoothstep(204.,205.,v),i=smoothstep(214.,225.,v),u=smoothstep(222.,240.,v),h=smoothstep(242.,244.,v),b=1.+8.*p(3.,clamp(v-204.,0.,99.));

I'm pretty sure at least...
