If it was that easy to launch some missiles, then a computer bug or a hacker could do it.

Fact that both the US and Russia don't want to you know is that at any given time, only a tiny amount of the nukes they have are actually capable of launching with even less expected to actually reach the target due to launch vehicle failures.
This leaves only plane and submarine launched nukes, which requires humans to manually load in order to work.
So in answer, an AI probably could launch a nuke or 2, but it wouldn't result in the apocalypse so much as it would result in a couple fucked up cities and some new AI and nuke restriction laws.
