you would know what adapter is reporting unplugged, and you should have a table with which adapters are on which machines, and which machines need to be connected to which switches/whatevers. the cable's position in space is not a useful value to query.

No - one unplugged means either it will route through another route or one client can not communicate at all.

That entirely depends. If they're let shit get that bad for cabling, other things could be shit as well. Some of those cables could represent a single point of failure with no proper redundancy in place.
