Heya /g/.
I've been studying IT and software dev for a few years now. Not the best at math but my logic is pretty solid. I'm currently doing my first internship with a medical records SaaS company which is nice but not really my area of interest.

Anyway, I've been trying to decide on one of a few different paths I could go on. Those are... vidya dev, blockchain dev, and IT security.

vidya: most personal interest , most fun, but highly competitive and probably over-saturated.

blockchain: pretty interested, highly sought after knowledge, probably not as fun, but still good. growing field.

security: growing field, pretty interesting, highly valuable skill for all businesses... probably more interesting in theory than it is in practice.

Any advice on which direction to take? I'm sort of leaning toward the vidya because i'm more 'passionate' about it, I guess, but then I might miss out on a chance to do something more meaningful/significant (although I do really enjoy watching people have fun with my games)

do not do this. Game companies know that every young programmer wants to work for vidya games, so they chew you up and spit you out knowing there'll be willing replacements in line behind you. Enjoy 100+ hour weeks during crunch time.

>blockchain
could be big, could be a meme. not clear yet. I would pass, or just keep up with developments in the area on the side, if you're really interested.

>security
here's your career path.

maybe if I stick to indie teams it would be okay?

I figure worst case scenario you just end up going black hat and take advantage of all the IoT crap coming out. probably the most useful skill... but also I imagine myself staring at http headers in wireshark and wanting to kill myself

Indie devs work just as hard. They just get paid a lot less.

Don't work in the games industry if you like video games, I went to college with so many faggots who played cod and wanted to work in games.
You get worked like a slave and shit pay.

Also Indie games are shit, a waste of time and fuck them all.
IT security is your best bet.
