To answer OP, HR in any tech company, IT, or any field not dealing with programming or tech at all.

i've seen some that, at times, are incapable of cutting and pasting working code.

this type of thing requires an eye for design, which is not something most people on /g/ have. Also it's only easy if all you are doing is front-end web dev

OP, you just need to buy into Agile, say you are serious about software quality and you don't do TDD, you live TDD. No one cares if you can't do sw engineering, the main thing to know who is the guy that can solve the problem at hand, then go and annoy her with it.
Also, make sure you attend every meeting possible to kill time/look important.

Thats a contradiction. You should strive to be the best so you can get the best jobs. If you live any other way, you're denying yourself of raw potential. You could also just kill yourself for asking such a brain dead question.
>>
>>53704892

I believe he is referring to code that, realistically, only you can read simply by virtue of you being the one who wrote it. An earmark of good code is code that adheres to a consistent/logical standard that allows any other competent programmer to pick it up, read it, and understand it.

Typical Node.js "developer" interview:

>"Anon you're doing pretty good. Our last question for you. Fizzbuzz from 1 to 100"

>var fizzbuzz = require('fizzbuzz')
>(adds npm dependency)
>console.log(fizzbuzz.print(100))

Hired.

Hey person who just read about the recent npm fuck up and thinks he knows web dev
>>
>>53705765
He wrote the fizzbuzz himself (although it's a bit of a naïve implementation). The joke is that there's probably an npm module for fizzbuzz that you can just import and use
>>
>>53699985
Like the German company? Not fucking with you, I used to work at Google and now I work for SAP. They pay me more, I work way less, and I'm the best dev on my team.

I have to use fucking Windows for work though, so not great in terms of professional growth.
>>
Everyone here hating on webdevs yet I landed a $100k base salary job last year right out of college as a backend webdev in Silicon Valley. Now I'm making $117 base. Keep telling yourselves webdev is a shit position.
>>
>>53707546
The general claim is that webdevs are clueless and incompetent, and specifically for this thread, that even shitty programmers can be web devs.

And as for your salary, well, in SV these days it seems like every number following a $ is just pulled out of somebody's ass.
>>
>>53707609
>>53707546

I think web devs don't get respect because there used to be a time when web dev mostly meant doing HTML/CSS and a little bit of JS (so mostly client side work) which is what people did when they weren't good at programming.

Web devs these days are usually "fullstack" and are just as good as any other software developer.
