I have been thinking about doing this.

Would it be a cool project?

Also, general modding thread!
>>

Already been done

Shameless BUMP
>>
>>53698377
Yes, I know that it has been done. I just wanna do it to fuck around, and since housings are fairly inexpensive, costing only a few bucks.
>>
>>53698383
why are you bumping? You haven't actually contributed anything or started a conversation; you're just asking for people to entertain you. go away.
>>
>>53698412
I put general modding thread. SO anybody is welcome to post shit that they have done.
>>
>>53698278
check me out everyone
im a faggot
>>
>>53698665
You are cool.
>>
I put my pc in a dvr case. Does that count? Real cases cost money and are big. This was free and small

I ran XDSL on the vanilla Xbox back in the day. I also soldered USB connectors to the controller plugs to plugin my keyboard and mouse. I felt like such a 1337 hacker as a teen.

Very cool anon. I would do something similar with the Raspberry Pi 3, and use one of those batteries from a power bank. It would need no cables, besides HDMI
>>
>>53698822
Neat. You could have installed Win 95 on it as well.

>>53699150
Interesting bro, care to share more on how you did it bro?
>>
>>53699088
yeah basically
>>
>>53698278
Quite the coincidence. I just last week took my original xbox from the garage and opened it up thinking about ramming an itx-build into it.
>>
>>53698278
Would it be a cool project? Seriously? You're asking random people on the internet if it will be "cool"? Um, sure, yeah it will be very super cool, man.

Oh, and also, it's a general modding thread! Woops, how could we have forgotten that this too is a general modding thread. Thank you OP for designating this thread as being the mother fucking place to be for general conversation on the topic of modding. Thank you.
>>
>>53698278
Hey OP,
I actually made one and posted it on Instructables. Here is the link. http://www.instructables.com/id/Xbox-Original-Desktop-PC/

I was a wee little lad when I made this so I apologize for the grammar.
>>
>>53700722
Ayy lmao.
>>
>>53701269
Thanks man. So is it worth it?
>>
>>53701466
To be honest, it was "worth it" as a learning experience. You can tell by the hardware and how I placed it that I didn't know shit back then. Like putting the 2.5in TAPED TO THE PSU. The software customization stuff was cool too. With how things are now if I were you, do a mini-itx with an external psu. That way you have more room for fans and drives.
>>
>>53701762
Got it. Ill definitely do that, ill look for some LGA 775 mini itx motherboards.

How would a external psu work?
>>
>>53701269
I have seen this post already, I wish it explained a little more though.
>>
>>53701828
I should have clarified, go for skylake or maybe 4th gen the oldest. The reason being is that the chips run MUCH COOLER which is important in such a tight space.

An external psu can be a small board that has all the connectors for the mobo and drives etc and it has a small cable (like a laptop charger) going into it. You don't want a big and bulky psu because firstly they weigh a ton and they take away space you need for cooling and drives.
>>
>>53701976
Thanks bro, I would go maybe Haslel Pentium, can you link me a psu like that?
>>
>>53698754
wow anon that is very cool

That would work even better w/ the pi 3
>>
>>53698754
Makes me wonder if anyone has tried upgrading the hardware in a commodore 64
>>
Would rather install linux on it

Are you me? I've been trying to find an excuse to make a gaming PC out of an old Xbox case (cause what else are you gonna do with a case like this?).

Ironically, with an old case like this, your best bet is using modern components to get the best performance and cooling for the size. You can have a more elegant solution today than you could back when this Anon >>53701269
>>53701762
made his attempt. My plan is a mITX build with a Zen-based AMD APU, a low profile CPU cooler, a 500w flex ATX PSU, and a single-slot GPU to go with the APU for dual graphics.

The CPU cooler is the Zalman CNPS2X:

The PSU is a 500w Athena Power flex ATX PSU:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817338120

The GPU will be something like Gigabyte's R7 250:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814125829&cm_re=r7_250-_-14-125-829-_-Product

The front controller ports will be replaced with USB 3.0 and ESATA ports, and the original power button will be rewired to turn on the PC motherboard. Here is my source to help me resolder the wires: http://diy.sickmods.net/Tutorials/Xbox1/Power-Eject_Pinouts/
