I have a nice thick ass glass table. This shit is probably never going to break but the legs did so now I have it on 2 stools. For a computer desk though, I'd recommend those shots at ikea. I mean, your friend doesn't look like he has his own home or anything so why buy an expensive desk. Also, cleaning glass is harder and it definitely gets dirty easily.
Also with cable management being a thing, it would look worse with a glass table.
You know, even then I probably still wouldn't get a glass desk for my computer setup. Maybe like for presentation in my media room or as some sort of coffee table but not for a computer setup in some dinky room.

I had a glass desk, it actually broke into a million pieces my CRT monitor (this was like 7 years ago) eventually just exploded the main panel of tempered glass. They are way cheaper, I have a nice black wooden desk now but that's because I have more money and know about exploding glass ones.

Reality is the total opposite. I got a good, solid metal+glass desk (picture) for $100. For that same price the best "wood" desk I could've bought would've been miserable turbocheap particle board chinashit that sags if you look at it the wrong way. The only way to have a quality wood desk for $100 is maybe if you build the thing yourself, which I can't since I live in a city and have no space for tools, workspace, etc.

Safety glass that explodes out of nowhere for no apparent reason was poorly made. probably just a bad tempering job, the glass is always supposed to contain its own forces but sometimes a manufacturing defect can eventually cause it to fail and "explode"
