What are your thoughts on dicking stations, /g/?
I was looking into getting one since I need to upgrade, and an ultrabook that can use for work during the day and turn into a future proof "PC" may be just what I'm looking for.

Fucking stupid, may as well get a desktop PC if you are even considering one of these things.
I use one but its pretty antiquated at this point, pci 2.0 1.5x and its limited by bandwidth so it can't really be upgraded.
I would advise you to go with one that uses ThunderBolt 3 and usb-c so there aren't any bandwidth or compatibility issues down the line.

I mainly need an ultrabook for work during the day. I would definitely get a Desktop but I figured I'd kill 2 birds with one stone if I have the laptop for the day and then dock it for gaming at night.

EGPU + port replicators are hitting the market soon for thunderbolt 3 (via usb-c) ports.
Personally I would grab the Dell XPS13 and use it with an eGPU.
