So can we all agree that Socket 775 was the best socket?

>>

Yes. I need 45nm supporting MB for my E7500. I need that P5K-VM

Whats the best MB for overclocking the 775?
>>
Are any of you old enough to be nostalgic for Socket A/462?

Second note i sold abit Fatal1ty mATX mobo which i found abandoned in pantry. Its crazy how people still pay topdollar for these.

Im currently working to replace 478 machine with 775 but IDE is pain for some reason. Our 1st machine was P3 which i buchered when i was kid. The HDD was dead anyway, the drivehead destroyed and the platter too.

Here's my old banger. Gave it a Q9400 with some hardware trades i made.

8 full years of reliability and performance.
>>
>>53695049
I miss my KR-7A, and the NF-7S I later got to replace it.

I don't miss that bullshit about worrying about how the PCI and AGP clocks went up along with the FSB, and having to fuck with dividers and chipset support for them, though.
>>
>>53694989
Only because of the 771 to 775 mod
>>
>>53695015
If you can find one, a Gigabyte EP45-UD3P is bar none the best LGA 775 overclocker.

Pic is my mobo, ASUS P5GZ-MX
>>
>>53699065
>>53699086
you can run any PCI-E graphics card in that, provided your PSU can power it.

With that monitor and that CPU though, it'd be a waste to get a very powerful card.
>>
>>53694989
With the Xeon hack on the newer models, absolutely. It was also a socket that lasted more than 2 years.
>>
Asus p5b reporting in, but for the love of god do not flash the bios with their windows flashing utility, you will brick the board.
>>
>>53699211
Never bricked mine P5GZ-MX
>>
can anyone explain why they started putting the pins on the socket instead of the other way around, makes no fucking sense
>>
>>53699143
Well the thing is,
The mobo supports PCIe 2.0 x16 @ x4 mode ,memory is limited to ddr2 533 mhz 2 gb (would dual channel help?),And best cpu supported is core 2 duo e4700 (800mhz fsb).

I don't exactly have money to buy a powerful card, just need one which can be powered by pcie only ,low end is ok i guess, never had a gpu .

I get very confused researching the best gpu for pc without much overkill.

My psu is 350W,if it matters.
>>
>>53694989
LGA 775 was fucking awesome. I remember overclocking my Pentium Dual Core E6300 to 4GHz a few years back so I could run PCSX2 playably. Good times.

It makes lots of sense.

It's cheaper to replace a broken motherboard. Also, they use slanted pins on the mobos which are harder to break.

My friend would like to upgrade his cpu in a 775 motherboard. What cpu does /g/ recommend? He's using his computer for light photoshop, internet and gayms. He wants some cool cpu with 4 cores. Any advice?

Fits more pins in the same area since they don't need to be finessed into holes by a human, less likely to be damaged, if pins on board are damaged it's usually cheaper to replace than a cpu, same package can be soldered directly to boards so they don't need to make a separate one for surface mount.

idk, maybe a ga-ep43 of some variety. just don't go investing in a 775 based system unless you already have the cpu/ram/etc.

>So can we all agree that Socket 775 was the best socket?
no
because socket 775 doesn't support all socket 775 cpus
>>
How long until contacts are too numerous and dense for sockets to work? Will it all be soldered again like my 386? Will motherboards stop looking cool if they can't be bought separately?
>>
Just upgrade from a 775 (p5n sli mobo, q6600, 8gb ddr2, Radeon 5500) ran this fucker for nearly 8 years. enjoyed every moment. it did have 2 GeForce cards in sli but they died. upgraded to all amd machine now and boy it is nice
>>
>>53712321
Why would you upgrade to an AMD CPU now? Zen is coming out this year.

Asus Commando was pretty good, but it's hard to find now.

ive been wanting to get my hands on the high end nvidia 775 mobo. I remember really wanting that when i was in middleschool. I got a q6600 sitting here waiting for it. I just hope this gskill memory will work on it.. i remember memory being very finicky back then.

I have that same board but with 4 dimm slots. Lasted me a while, brought the PC to school because autismo computer club, and forgot to bring it home at the end of the year. Idk if they still have it, plus a monitor.
>>
>>53694989
>GA-P35-DS3

that motherboard was legendary.
>>
>>53699211
I always flashed mine through the onboard tool.

Cool board, BIOS upgrades allows for installation of quad cored that was released years later.

This is why I like LGA775. It had such a long run, years of substantial upgrades. Current sockets are replaced almost every time Intel release a new CPU. If you bought an i7 today, you already have the best CPU you can ever get for that socket.

The difference between the CPU I bought for my P5B and a more recent quad core like the Q9550 is like night and day.
>>
>>53699735
Any cheap PCI-e card should be enough. You won't be playing games, but you'll get video. Something for less than 100 dollars, without extra power connectors.

Should be a few cards for less than 50 dollars too.

Why are you so asscracked about the arrival of a mainstream-affordable 10/16thread CPU lad? Hopefully they drive jewtel prices down too. Same with NVIDIA.

D'oh, forgot about that. Thanks m8

>>53714255
It was alright. Still manages just fine.
>>
>>53713826
Thanks for the advice buddy.

Im thinking buying a used old nvidia card for it,would that be fine or should I get new?

I currently play only <2004 games as anything later is very slow to play at lowest settings. My target is only to play 2005-2010 games at ok settings, nothing high, and to play <2004 games at high settings.Would it be possible?

I can already play FHD videos(1920x1080) and movies lag free on Win XP.On Win 7 can only play HD videos (1280x720) lag free, anything high stutters. So i think video playback is not that much of a problem.

built a desktop for my roommate out of an R7 260X, 6GB DDR2, Core2Quad Q8300, all on a P5B Deluxe

it runs most games at low or medium but he mostly uses it for Draon Nest and browsing

What Xeon hack are you talking about? I have an ASUS P5QD Turbo motherboard and my CPU seems to be a bottleneck. After checking a few benchmarks the Xeon X3380 seems like what I should get, if I can find one.
>>
if only i could find a MB with 8gb ddr3 ram support (under 100$)i could run this shit for another 10 years
