>>
Kevin is the shit.
RIP Diggnation.

I wonder if he hangs out with moot since they both work at google now
>>
Digg was the precursor to reddit, and /g/ pretends to hate reddit even though they use that site.

TIL: I matter to /g/ even though linux is too complicated for me
>>
Reddit literally ripped off Digg wholesale.

It should get more credit for everything that site has achieved.

it really should. i remember feeling like I finally found people online who were like me when I joined digg in 2005/2006.

I joined reddit in 2006/2007 and it was even better... at least the comments section was better organized.

Today, reddit is shit and I'm back to where I was in 2004... there is no community for people like me.
>>
>>53684519
the problem with Reddit is that it's Digg as a discussion board, and that's got to be the dumbest idea I've ever heard

mind you, I never did like Digg, although I didn't really hate it either
>>
>>53688508
I went to one of their live shows back then when they could fill an entire hall and still turn away people at the door. It was a mad time for start ups and VC and they were the hippest company around.

Too bad they couldn't cross over from the tech world to the mainstream. They fucked up huge.

It's funny to look back at all of the people from TechTV, especially those that were on the Screen Savers, and see who made it and who ended up as failures.

Well back in the day Digg was a tech news site that slowly started to become more 'social media' aka shit, while reddit remained small and inclined towards tech. I think i remember noticing the change especially in diggnation, where the articles chosen slowly changed and by the end of it they were just like some college frat thing. Digg made some mistakes and everyone meme'd over to reddit because it was the closest thing to digg, and started to shit all over the place. Both used to be legit websites when the communities were small, but as always it became popular and turned to shit.
>>
I remember digg, good times. I remember after the updated the site. It was fucking awful, then I went over to reddit, a lot of people did. Then eventually I migrated here to 4chan a few years ago. I visit reddit occasionally at work, but 4chan is just so much better.

It is impossible to browse more than one website at the same time ever.
>>
>>53690527

What annoys me the most is how simple most of the technology behind these sites is. There are so many applications that are significantly more complex than dig/reddit/4chan/etc.

The whole "the community builds the site" is largely luck. You can claim it's marketing but in reality I've never seen an advertisement for any of these sites, you just go where other people are.

>>

Probably because he dumped Sarah Lane for some man jaw veggie deep throating slut
>>
>>53691699
I think the two got popular because the way they were built allowed them to grow, while sites like fark and slashdot were limited in who could post or something like that. I think those were the 4 main aggregate news communities back then.

I hate Leo Laporte now. Just FYI.
>>
>>53692586
It's so weird. I wondered what he was up to a while ago and checked out TWiT. There he was with a bunch of San Fransisco SJWs shouting about feminism, with John C. Dvorak being crochety in the corner.

On the plus side, it turns out Dvorak has a decent podcast.
>>
>>53692675
I'll have to give No Agenda a listen then.
>>
>>53692236

Remember when she forgot to remove the cropped metadata from her photoshoot, and we got to see her titties?

That was our fappening

I've always been a bit skeptical it was an accident considering her other "accident" of being overheard in the background on-air talking about being gangbanged by a dozen or so German tourists she met.

>>53692675
Leo banned Dvorak from all Twit shows for being skeptical of the clock boy's story. Of course Dvorak was proven correct when Ahmed's story fell apart but he'd been butting heads with Leo anyway for not sucking up to sponsors. It's too bad Adam Curry is such a huge douchebag, which renders the No Agenda Show unlistenable. Dvorak had a short lived show a few year back where he had clueless millennials on to talk about current issues, mostly tech related, in which he mocked them and would flirt with the girls.

Problem is he's sunk a huge amount of money into building a studio and needs to make that money back. It doesn't help that it's located in Petaluma, which means anyone from Silicon Valley doing a show there is looking at four or five hours of driving roundtrip. That likely makes it much more difficult to get live in studio guests though they do a good job with remote guests most of the time.

Leo is essentially trapped in the company he made. He has a lot of shows that he has to do week after week to keep things going. If he slows down, the ad revenue goes down, and then they can't pay the rent or cover the loans that paid for the studio. He's essentially running on a treadmill that doesn't have a pause button. I won't be surprised if at some point he just says "Fuck it", lets the company go bankrupt and walks away.

/g/ hates idea millionaires

and to be honest the business is like, 5000 people have the same idea and release the same product

but adoption snowballs and a random one makes it big, and eventually dies due to its incompetence and reliance on unpredictable users
>>
>>53694827
I still love Sarah. She looks like a hot mess now and I'm into it.

>>53692586
he's always been kind of an asshole. He had a meltdown on Jason Calacanis, loses his cool constantly when discussing social issues, is an ass to Dvorak.

But most of all I hate that I've seen his dick. The way he handled that whole thing is embarrassing.

THIS

>"made $60M"
>more like, digg increased it's valuation by $60M in 18 months
>then instead of selling it, he waited for reddit to come along and reduce it's value
>sold digg for $500K

>implying he deserves any respect
>>
>>53692675
He blackballed Dvorak (he had Curry a while back) because of something non-PC that Dvorak tweeted. He's a big fat (literally) douche. In the morning!

>I've always been a bit skeptical it was an accident considering her other "accident" of being overheard in the background on-air talking about being gangbanged by a dozen or so German tourists she met.

This can't be true. I've seen the other photo of her with the metadata mishap.
>>
>>53697771
No question that the nudes happened, just skeptical that it wasn't international to get her attention. She was always one of the least popular girls on the network.
