What is the best Linux distro and why is it manjaro?
>>
What a shit thread
>>
The best distribution is the one that works best for your particular use case with regards to your preferences and skills/knowledge.

If you like Manjaro best then that probably just means you're a new user that doesn't like the mainstream yet still feels drawn to something he thinks will impress those that are in the know (it doesn't btw)
>>
Everyone knows Ubuntu is best
>>
>>53682406
Tbh I like manjaro because I have aur access and it just werks
>>
>>53683943
But you wouldn't call it the best distro, just the best distro for you
>>
Manjaro and mint is the worst distros.
They do not have a clear reason why they are something other than a setup script for the parent distro and provide a false sense of stability that isn't a problem in the parent distro.
If you want to use arch, use arch. If you want to use Ubuntu, use Ubuntu.
Having a hobby fork just introduces more problems and you can get the same setup with the parent distro.
>>
manjaro = arch for people who don't know how to rtfm and are too stupid to edit configs.
>>
>>53684219
Except they still have to go through wiki and edit configs.
 #pacman -S xfce xfce-goodies lxdm ; systemctl enable lxdm.service
doesn't make you smarter than manjaro users.

I agree. As a former Arch user I became disenfranchised with Arch's steady movement towards a reliable distribution. I was feeling left in the cold around Kernel 3 when I had very little to fix anymore. Life became dull and meaningless. Then came Manjaro and it's policy of taking Arch and turning it to shit. Thanks Manjaro, you put new meaning in my life.

Manjaro's unstable repo is identical to Arch's stable. Do a pacman -Syu and it's for all means and purposes Arch.

So why the fuck do you need to use a stupid fork when you could use the real thing?
>>
>>53685054
Because it's easier to revert to a slightly more stable repo if things get fucked up. Also Manjaro has the mhwd-kernel tool.
>>
>>53685054
because between having a full time job, a part time job, going to uni and being a father of a 3 year old I simply don't have time to waste installing "the real thing" when manjaro has faster and simpler way to do it in less than half the time.
plus it comes several tools pre-installed that I happen to need from time to time.

>>
>>53685303
I disagree, for one thing I like pacman better because its
a) written in C, so faster as it doesn't need to be interpreted before thrown at the processor

b)ability to roll back entire upgrades due to the cache. This is one main reason I switched to arch from debian sid.
>>
>>53685365
I enjoy pacman too. I like Arch. I am just saying. If I wanted an overall stable desktop. I wouldn't hop on arch. But linux isn't really meant for that anyway and any small coding files can be store don an HD or cloud whatever

Unless your talking about running arch on a server, that is pretty retarded but I like the aur.

I works like arch for the most part. You have aur and it the only distro that have explicit support for nvidia optimus.

Being a long time arch user, I hate to say it, but it is more stable than arch.. Thats why I use it.
