So, is THIS the 18650 flashlight:

http://www.gearbest.com/led-flashlights/pp_187781.html

Can I use regular AA's, or do I have to use those weird purple batteries? I'd much rather buy one that can use AA's.

I have an old-ass Galaxy S3 (which I'm probably going to change soon, I want to get an S7 but I also don't feel like spending money and have been considering just getting the nicest chinkphone I can find). All I use it for is to watch VR and 360 videos. Oh, and panoramic pictures, that's always neat.
The headset is reasonably comfy and I've impressed several normalfags with it by letting them try it out. Pentile is less of an issue than I expected. The hilariously low performance of the phone is surprisingly not an issue regarding nausea, at least for me or anyone I've shown it to (but they've all worn it for far less time than me, so that's not saying much). I wear my glasses while wearing the thing (I'm hilariously nearsighted, like 4 inches in front of my face before it gets blurry bad), no issue.

There aren't too many adjustments for the optics, the sliders on it mainly just to account for phone size.

There's a capacitive button instead of the magnet ring, which works much better, although it's a tad poorly placed (it's near where the cardboard settings button is on the screen). The phone sticks on with suction cups, and there's also padding if you don't have a smooth backed phone
as far as I know, drift will be an eternal issue with these things, although all of Google's cardboard apps have great drift correction
but most other programs don't seem to use the latest release of the Cardboard API and thus will drift pretty heavily, so you can't just lie down and enjoy, you'll need a swivel chair or to stand

And yeah, it's totally worth $8. It will still make you wish you had something better, but it's pretty neat.
It's a piece of plastic you stick your phone in and strap to your face and provides a reasonable approximation of a VR helmet.

>>
>>53683822
np. get the oneplus x, it's overall the better value. if you're spending 350 on a phone, the 2 isn't your best option. better ppi, better screen (OLED vs LCD), and no fingerprint scanner. the oneplus 2 doesn't even have a physical button, as the main button, it's mainly a fingerprint scanner. you're paying the premium on an extra gig of ram and a slightly better cpu, which you just don't use in the phone. you also lose on display quality.

just my two cents but you're better off with the oneplus x over the 2

i watched a review, apparently the two pressure sensitive triggers on the back are actually one button, one really pressure sensitive
>>
>>53684220
that's a strange design choice I agree. There's plenty of controllers though should suffice though.
>>
>>53684212
it depends on where you live. ATT has more LTE bands than you see on the google spec sheet, and I have LTE support frequently in SoCal. call your local rep and check to see which bands they support in your area to be certain but i can see how thats an issue.
unless you're tethered to your laptop or something its not that big an issue. hspa in the states is something like 50mbps/up and you aren't going to need much more than that for a phone. you can trade in that support if its a dealbreaker but you lose on expandable storage, better battery life, etc etc.
again i own both and i mainly use the X. take from that what you will but you'll prally regret the 2 later.

What' /csg/'s recommended flashlight?
>>
>>53684495

Flashlights/Torches:
Focus on Cree LEDs with a single chip, especially their Q5 (updated version note: The Q5 is a specific bin of the XP-E2 LED, so disregard what the old pastebin says) and XM-L2 series. They have long battery life / super strong output, respectively. Do not pay too much attention to usually bogus lumen ratings.

Yeah but you should have a few different brightnesses available right? XM-L2 is the most efficient LED Cree makes, so better battery life on same brightness. If you can solder, you can probably just pop a cheap emitter in.

If you run KODI or something like that on there then there's no problem with over 1080p, it's all based off what your network can handle. Playing any file off USB is perfect too, I have a 2 year old ANdroid box and it still works great.

Hey /csg/fags, I'm thinking about building a small media server with the Orange Pi Plus. The reason I wanna go with the Plus is because of its SATA2 connector, but before I do I have a few questions.

First, what solution did you use to power the SATA drive?

And second, do you think it would be too ugly? or do you think it could be done without too many cables?
>>
>>53686640
SATA on OPi Plus is not SATA capable. It's USB-to-SATA bridge, the write speeds do not exceed 15MB/s. Check Sunxi wiki.
>>
guys, do I get a 64gb or 128gb microSD?

I mean, I'm sure 64gb is more than enough... but 128gb is MORE than more than enough

>>53686698
2x64 are cheaper than 1x128. One 64 is cheaper than any other combination. Decide yourself.
>>
>>53686684
What? It has a dedicated SATA 2 chip though...

Can you link me to exactly where it says that? I cant seem to find it skimming through the wiki.
>>
>>53686750
It still goes through USB 2.0 bus.
>>
>>53686878
shit...

So should I just go with an RPi 2? It seems like the OPi+ has no advantage now. Seeing as I'd be running it using an ethernet cable anyway.
>>
>>53682391
so far just boypussy accessories
http://www.gearbest.com/microscopes-endoscope/pp_229387.html
>>
>>53686904
If size wouldn't have been a problem, PC built from used components would do 1000x more things 100x better than RPi and it would cost 4--5x as much. If you don't want headaches, go for cheapo computer instead of RPi and clones. You won't look back after that.

I told you where to check for more on the SATA topic. Use Google.
The chip you see is GL830, it's USB 2.0 / PATA / SATA bridge.

I don't think there's any such board with real SATA.
Banana Pi has USB-to-SATA bridge, too.

>>53687062

>>
>>53686976
>set/forget
Then don't even look at RPi and clones. Power outage corrupted my SD countless times, system updates literally broke my installation to point where it was easier to just wipe it. I think that in case of performance/power, computer would still do better. Look for T series Intel processors, they have ridiculously low power consumption and are much more powerful than you would ever need.
>>
Anyone buy /chinkphone/ during the sales?
>>
>>53687079
Thanks man.

Its mostly for Bittorrent Sync and Hentai@Home, so that's mostly what I'm going for.
>>
>>53687032

Fwiw the Orange Pi doesn't make the USB and ethernet share the same bus so there won't be any bottlenecking there but you're still limited to USB 2 so it's around 30 MB/s. I use it as a seedbox and have never managed to throttle it with a 100mb line.

>>
>>53687095
It is possible to overcome these flaws, but in the end, you are just patching something that is broken. And spending silly money on it. Good luck whatever you go for and remember to have fun setting it up as well.
>>
>>53687072
Seems that Banana Pi M1, Pro and R1 (Router) all have real SATA. There are possibly other boards with real SATA controllers, too.

Check Linux Sunxi for more info on boards, but read descriptions of devices. Ctrl-F for SATA, to see if USB bridge is mentioned anywhere.
