Windows 10 is now an IMPORTANT update.
Every computer that has "install important updates" enabled will automatically update to Windows 10.

A friend just called me for help, saying that his computer was updating for an unusually long time, so he restarted it. After checking what the long update was, he saw that it is Windows 10, now labeled as "important update". Not optional, not recommended, important.

The only reports I've seen on this were from less than 20 hours ago and I didn't find news articles about this yet, so it's fresh off the presses.
Has Microsoft gone too far?

Like I said, it's probably brand-new and it probably gets rolled out by country.
I only know because a friend called me, and after googling it I found pic related.

I found it while googling on how to stop it from installing. It's from february, but has a comment from 23 hours ago also stating that it is now important.

My friend disabled updates now, I just asked him to take me a screenshot of it.

I'm beyond this logic. Business that didn't invest on new technology every 7-10 years should be punished on their productivity too.
>>
>>53682397
Well, OSX updates usually aren't flawed or completely damaging to the system.

Windows updates frequently do this.
>>
>>53682397
>I'm beyond this logic. Business that didn't invest on new technology every 7-10 years should be punished on their productivity too.

Literally what?

If they run a system from 1995 and it still works it wont shit itself, but if it's a system that has windows 7, it'll shit itself and upgrade to cancerware metro.

Everyone should do themselves a favor and either upgrade to some variety of linux or windows server 2012/2016.

yeah i dont use windows only to play 1 game. but i havent checked for updates in weeks and when I went to it. it said" last check for update 2 hours"

sad stuff.thank god for dual booting i guess

This is what I'm trying to say. If you or your business cared about privacy, productivity and/or updates you should had installed GNU/Linux in the first place long ago. It's not like Windows didn't warned their users about this update with enough time to get your hardware prepared.

Microsoft's place is on the desktop and nowhere else.

They should stop shoveling closed garden shit in hopes they create a new platform so that the declining PC market isnt their only source of income.

OSX is quite a lot easier to manage than Windows. The range of hardware they need to support is quite limited and they have less obligation to continue supporting older hardware while government departments and shit run Windows and demand their old shit remains functional.
>>
>>53683896
There are some tweaks you can do to run windows smoothly, (disabling disc indexing/Aero effects...)

If you have a powerful PC you should be okay

might as well ask here.
recently windows update is giving me headaches in terms of cpu usage.
even though i have automatic udpates set to off the trusted installer is eating a full core of cpu power even though its basically doing nothing.
closing the service really does nothing since it just starts up again some time after and you cant disable it completely or remove it since its a system service. this is on windows 7.
what the fuck do i do.

not on pirated windows it dont.

i did hear of occasions though where removeWAT activated windows installs got the win10 update.

Does anyone have the pic related?

I installed the drivers on Win10 but cant get features like rumble and auto-fire working... they don't show up in properties.

Anyone here have it working?
>>
>>53682397
Because that's a different system. You knew when you brought it that's what you were getting. But with windows people brought with the ability to turn off, custom select all select all updates.

A lot of legacy software running for business rely on that fact and microsoft is changing this.

Windows 7 is officially supported until 2020. That it was I paid for that is what I'm getting.

Windows Vista is supported until 2017. That is what they paid for that it was they should get.

Windows 8 is now no longer supported.
>>
>>53685076
You may want to check that. Microsoft is actively patching to break them. Most are updated quickly but do not presume protection.

>>
>>53683596

Why?
>>
>>53685076
You have to block it at the hardware level not the software level which they can easily bypass.

Trying to block it at the software level is like the idiots who think they can stop a DDoS attack at the software level
>>
>>53685317
No worries... installed the wrong drivers duh-doy.
>>
>>53685425
Part of that support includes an upgrade to win 10
>>
>>53685445
Haven't seen an update to antibeacon yet.
>>
>>53685628
No it didn't. The support is for Windows 7 not Windows 10. That is a completely different core. Software that will run on 7 may not run on 10.

Also that support for 7 makes no mention of forcing updates. I didn't buy the OS as a service platform. That software as a service wasn't part of the original deal and that deal is supported until 2020.

Non of that support includes Windows 10.
>>
>>53685538
Not enough people know this. Everybody keeps repeating the beacon fixes everything line when microsoft is releasing a very controlled upgrade to break it.
>>
>people who didn't run aegis
>people who don't know about install gentoo wiki
I got a good kek out of my pleb m8s getting cucked my the Microshill though.
>>
>>53685670
Spybot antibeacon auto updates.
>>
- disable all upgrades through control panel
- install a 3rd party application to block upgrades
- and monitor downloads\disable writing to the folder that windows downloads the updates to
- block IPs to known microsoft servers in the hosts file and\or your router
- failing that, just install GNU\linux. microsoft drove you to it, after all
>>
Even if you install the update you still have to agree to install Windows 10 afterwards.
>>
>>53684402
Use task manager, go to services and just terminate the update process on thattab. Fixes the issue
