I'm getting this instead of the 380x, then. Hope they provide analog for DVI so this poorfag can run passive.

They all point to Polaris 10 being merely a mid range card, and Vega seems to be the true 490X/FuryX replacement

Is it better to wait for Polaris 10 instead?

vram version of hawaii (GDDR5) was 8.0
vram version of fiji (HBM1) was 8.5
vram version of polaris is 8.1 so going by nomenclature probably GDDR5X

That said Polaris 10 ran Hitman at 2k60fps while being passively cooled.

Also only AMD gets async until volta. So if you are interested in dx12/vulkan you better not pick nvidia.
>>

The claims here keep getting more ridiculous.
>>
>>53679843
Next gen midrange card is almost as powerful as this gen's top end, it's good enough for most people 2bh. If it's priced right, it will sell a crap ton. AMD said their goal was to bring VR's minimal spec down in price so 290 performance for $200 with low power consumption sounds like a great deal.
>>
>>53678512
kind of sucks they went with gddr5 but i won't be using it for anything but 1080p anyways and it'll do that ezpz.

290x is still a top tier card, Hawaii has aged tremendously well considering the 290x was AMDs response to the Titan but now the 290x/390x is trading blows with the 980. We might see the 290x/390x even keep up or beat the 980ti in DX12/Vulkan games.

8GB GDDR5 is superior to 4gb HBM

Even nvidia is going this route on everything but the titan

Not like it matters since the important thing is the new architecture.

HBM is worthless when limited to small capacities because swapping is going to take the same amount of time as ever.
>>
>>53684338
depends on the type of compression that's being used man.

People said the same shit about the Fury but AMD released Delta Color Compression with it and that made 4gb effectively 5-6 depending on texture complexity.
>>
>>53684373
Yeah but that compression can also be used to improve GDDR5 usage. Plus more and more games are caching things that will need to be loaded soon to reduce load time/pop in. Hence Black Ops 3 demolishing 970s on the default cache settings because it was set to use 90% of vram at any given point.

>>
>>53684307

I left out that HBM2 is going on the titan not plain HBM.

HBM by itself is low capacity limited to 4GB and I would say might be on par with GDDR5 6GB but definitely not 8GB GDDR5. I don't expect devs to give a shit about it until HBM2 so 8 GB GDDR5 is definitely the way to go.
>>
>>53681988
Yeah, If you want an ssd and USB 3 everything is going to be PCI based.

Nevertheless, what motherboard do you have? I want to get an HP z800 or z600, but knowing I can't overclock is going to kill me, but it is probably the cheapest way to go if I want to do a dual socket workstation.

>>
>waaah X company isn't giving me the second coming of GPU Gesus for $1

What do you idiots even want?
AMD's low end cards haven't been updated since 2011, in fact they've still been selling some VLIW5 cards as OEM/entry level stuff for years. Tonga is a shit heap that barely keeps up with the 7950, and draws just as much power because Apple bought all of the good binnings, and the consumer market got the garbage tier crippled left overs.

Cape Verde, Pitcairn, Tahiti, Bonaire, and Tonga dies need to be retired already. Polaris 10 and 11 take care of that.
Hawaii draws way too much power, and the Fury Nano would replace it, but supply is likely too low for AMD to price them competitively. That would leave the Fury X remaining as AMD's top tier GPU, and that just came out. They're not going to replace a brand new die.

>How is a midrange card fucking their customers?
because the retards thought amd was releasing their high end first line nvidia.

see, nvidia has no mid range card in the 16nm, as they made special optimizations for their 28nm node to lull the power they did, switching those nodes takes what was the Maxwell architecture, puts it back to the Kepler level performance with a die shrink. its not like amd where they could die shrink the fury and have everything but the node the same but scale the performance up significantly.

so nvidia has to brute force an advantage where as amd doesn't.
>>
>>53685992
>amd doesn't release what people expect
>people are getting fucked over by AMD

>>
>>53679788
headroom dood, can never have to much, while you may not have a reason to upgrade, i can think of one.

sell the cpu and motherboard at an inflated price due to intel, and use the money to get the zen a motherboard and likely a gpu as well.

we knew for a good 6+ months amd was releasing the low end first, its not new, and its not shocking.

some retard said the Polaris 10 was the highest end card after the 11 was shown in battlefield against a 960
you had to be literally retarded to think the 10 was the highest end.

somehow this caught on, and everyone is socked when its a mid range card...

seriously, people are fucking retarded because you there is no reason to be disappointed, if anything i'm impressed with how well the card does.
>>
>>53681183
lol, for me im on ddr2 phenom II x4, 8gb wasnt cutting it so i gambled and bought 16gb of ddr2 from china. 30$ breathed new life into my computer making it last just a bit longer... i now know i want 32gb of ddr4 when i upgrade, just don't know if i want to expand to 64gb at some point and get 2 16gb sticks, or if i want to go the cheaper route and get 4 8gb sticks.

i'm thinking through normal computer use i wont need more then 24gb of ram, but i have wanted a ram disk for the last 15 years at least... just never had the pc or opportunity to do it.

Fx6300 is significantly better.

I'm currently using an fx 8320 and it's still good for a few more years
>>
>>53684263
1440p is the only resolution that i would accept at ~30 inches, i wont take a 4k screen under 40~ and would prefer 48

i dont need hardware based antialising to hide jaggies when i would rather have 4 1080p monitors worth of screen space with no bezel and have more productive space, not a fucking scaled ui because 4k at 24-30 inches is to fucking small to read text without.
>>
>>53680410
the 390 performance will get pushed down to mid range possibly be beaten by it. remember, if you forgo the power savings, you can gain 40%~ performance.
>>
>>53684871
I can't help you with dual socket boards. I've got an Asus P6t Deluxe. It overclocks really well.
>>
>>53686297
Literally the complete opposite from me. I can't see myself using a 4k monitor >27 inches because I want sharper text, not the ability to shitpost 12 threads simultaneously.

I might be down with getting an ultrawide but a 3440x1440 monitor is twice the price of a 4k one with much better PPI.
>>
>>53684815

>>
>>53686438
nah, for me its all productivity,
i could open Photoshop and have a very large work area with the same ui scaling, so im seeing the image at 100% without zooming out

i could also have foobar or something for video/audio opened at the side.

if i dont get a penable display, i could set my tablet to only work on 1/4th the screen, get a fairly massive work area while having reference opened at the top and sides, or window a 1080p game (how i currently play on a 1920x1200... had to many bad experiences where a game locked up full screen and took the system with it to enjoy full screen gaming anymore.) while having shit open on the sides, able to read full pages without needing to tun the game off or cover the game up when im doing some mindless wandering in games.

for me, text is already sharp enough at 1080p, and because i'm a good 2-3 feet away from the screen, aliasing never bothered me, well that and windows by default has an aa filter on text
