On your advice, I turned "Ads based on interests" off over a week ago, but I am still getting these blatantly targeted ads, and now I have no idea what to do.
Not only am I getting the same lewd ads, I also got ads for maths tutoring after I bought a maths textbook on amazon, I got ads for gardening equipment after I bought a rake this morning, etc etc.
What can I do now? Google is just ignoring my preferences completely, and I dont think i have any options.

You're right, you shouldn't have to. Unfortunately ad companies are basically untouchable by law enforcement, and ads are more intrusive and ugly than they've ever been before.
Use a fucking ad-blocker. Continue to do so until ad companies get their asses handed to them by either the government or going bankrupt trying to advertise to a legion of people blocking their shit.
Alternatively come out of the closet, it gets better, etc. Even then you should still use an ad blocker though.
It's nice that you want to support the websites you visit and such, but at the same time you shouldn't support a business model that exploits you in this way Encourage your favorite creators to monetize in ways that benefit you both.

I think his problem is visiting friends who use his WiFi on their phones/tablets.
Personally I block on the router level with hosts file, then it won't load ads for anyone on the network.

Depending on your country, there may be legal recourses, but ofc that's gonna be hard without coming out.
One way to foil them targeting you by IP would be running an exit node for a VPN or Tor.
For your account though...maybe a heartfelt letter/mail explaining that they actively put you at risk of jail/stoning/some bad shit could reach someone in position to reset your history, but let's be honest, one in a billion chance

I have two computers for this very reason. One PC at home where all my weeb stuff is on and a small Chinkpad with zero porn, zero cartoons and browsers configured to never keep history or cookies which I use for public presentations and working on the train.
I do use my home computer for work as well, but I'm going to change that soon. I can't have trap porn in one window and important work mails right next to it, it's a disaster waiting to happen.

Number one - youtubers are not making money off ad's. The money per click and number of clicks is stupidly low right now. Most are making money of donations, merchandise and sponsorship deals. Donate a couple of euro - dollar - pound what ever you use and they have earned more of you than you would ever have given them in advertising.
Secondly you can turn on adverts for selected youtubers in most ad block programs now days or just disable it on the domain youtube.com
Thirdly malicious advertising is a really big thing now. To many are slipping the filters for it to be safe to not run ad block in my honest opinion.
i used a firefox addon that googles random phrases. i forget what it is called, but it will average out the adverts that you are targeted with.
