Is there any way to plug RAM in a laptop using the CD bay ?
There's already caddys to put a HDD instead of the CD reader/burner but is there some kind of SATA/PCI-E card converter ?

No, there isn't a way to do that. Even if you could, ot would get buttfucked by the 600MBps limit of sata3. Just get a normal ssd.

bumping for interest

>RAM over SATA/PCI-E interfaces

wew lad
>>

I'm more concerned about the access time of such a device , knowing that a PCI-E card goes for 100ns

the fuck
>>
>>53674349
Sure, man.
Just take one of those hard drive caddies and throw some SODIMMs in it.
>>
>>53674349
The best you can do is put in a fast SSD and set it to be used as a pagefile/swap drive.
>>
>>53674349
Just ram them in.
>>
>>53674349
I just bought that caddy, it works great however it is thinner than my existing DVD drive. Is it advisable to slip some post it pads underneath the caddy? Will it catch fire? I'm running a hard drive on the caddy.
>>
>>53674349
just put a SSD in the caddy and use it for swap :^)
>>
>>53675493
Try electrical tape. It's fairly thick and safe for that use
>>
>>53675551
Probably your best option, otherwise use Windows ReadyBoost XD
>>
>>53674349
Why? Just download more ram.

What about this instead?
>>
>>53676451
kek. Is that actually real? Reverse image search got nothing useful.
>>
>>53675493
Trade you my old one for yours. I have a 12.7mm one that doesn't fit in my new laptop.

>>
>>53676757
no fuck you, i accidentally found it bruteforcing and it looked cool

this thread is fucking useless anyway
>>
>>53674349
Actually this isn't that stupid if you wanted a RAM disk. Although it wouldld be slower than a true RAM disk it would be great for systems that have to write a ton to disk
>>
>>53676618
Yes these exist.
>>
>>53676944
OP check out i-RAM from Gigabyte
>>
>>53677021
Or hyperos hyperdrive
>>
>>53676618
But it wouldn't read as RAM. It would just be volatile memory as a usb flashdrive type thing. Very pointless.
>>
>>53677867
It's called virtual ram. It has a lot of usage from debugging to helping extremely old hardware run newer applications when mobo's don't support more ram or you only need to run an application occasional for some purpose like configuration but is more than powerful enough for it's regular purpose.
