Will upload more pics in a moment, just had to get the timestamp in there so I didn't get pestered about it later on.

Did a cap explode? What did you do?

The 9590 needs a mobo with extensive cooling for the the power delivery and enough phases and chokes/mosfets etc to deliver enough stable power to the chip

Would not recommend using it on a cheap mobo for obvious reasons.
I thought you had to have a 990FX chipset? Did it work on a 970 chipset?

>What happened?

Ever heard of the FX9590? Probably not. Not many are dumb enough to buy it, I made a huge mistake and bought one. After under clicking the piece of 900mhz below the out of the box and undervolting it for stability, I was able to game issue free (unless you count massive FPS drops an issue) for a few months.

Then, this fucking happened. I'm not sure exactly what caused it, but the first thing I noticed was it appeared to start right at the point where the 2 heat spreaders (will show in another pic) touched.

>>53671472
I cooled my 9590 with a Corsair H100i, but apparently liquid cooling isn't good enough...

Well, mine worked with the 970 chipset, so apparently it works.

Fuck, why didn't Amazon/Newegg list this, it seems like the fact it can't support over 200w would be really fucking important.

Welp, now I never want to buy anything again without looking at the manufacturer website, I guess this was partly my fault.

>>53671615

I'm well aware I got cucked out of my mind by the 9590. I only really got into computers early 2015, and bought this back before I realized just how shit it was.

My plan was to stick with it until my birthday (April 12, luckily it lasted me almost long enough) and then promptly ditch it for a 4790k or something in the similar price bracket.

>>

You should at least take a look at the supported CPUs
>>
>>53671860

I did. No warning label on the box, every site selling this mobo lists it as supporting all AMD FX CPUs.

The only place I've seen the 200w warning label is on MSI's site, and even there it was hidden back in the test data.

This was on the newegg page for the FX-9590. You should research more into the parts you're buying before you buy them and complain. There is a reason the FX-9590 is 220w and the FX-83xx chips range from 95-125w

I had the FX-9370. Had it clocked to 5.2ghz. The motherfucker drew 410 watts from the wall by itself under 100% load. You really think a 970 chipset motherboard has the balls to handle that? Especially considering the meh VRM section present on the board. My Sabertooth 990FX used to struggle if I pushed for 5.5ghz because it needed 1.65v

At 5.5ghz @ 1.65v I would get 58C under 100% Prime95 testing loads after 20 or so minutes.

I was running a custom Liquid loop. 360mm radiator and 240mm radiator. Also has 2 gtx-670s in the loop. When the CPU went under load, the gtx 670's idle temps went up 15C. Radiators were AlphaCool UT-60 variants. Pic related. Had each rad with push/pull 2.2k rpm fans.

I ended up killing my Sabertooth on accident. Was pushing for 5.5ghz and couldn't get stable. Would result in complete system lock up and I would need to pull the CMOS battery to boot again. I had all motherboard safeties and thermal limiters/throttles completely disabled. On my last run I forgot to set the Load Line Calibration so the voltage was allowed to fluctuate. It fucking boosted to 2.0v for 15 solid minutes of Prime95 before popping lol.

It was what lead my to buying my current i5 and z97 setup as I eagerly await Zen. I'm tempted to snag another cheap 990fx board for old-times sake. Then I remember just how inefficient FX is.

Particularly because TDP is almost always the same. Intels all are under 100 and AMD mostly about 100 or a bit more.

Except one certain extraordinary over the op overclocked CPU which basicly has double the normal tdp.

No, I'm just saying that when you sell a product that's outside of normal spec and that could cause a dangerous situation if used with a product that isn't rated to go outside of normal spec, then the warning should be readily visible and not at the bottom of the page burred in a product description that's a mix of advertising and rehashing the spec sheet.

On Amazon it is (amusingly enough I've always been told that it's better to shop on places dedicated to selling computers), on Newegg it's at the bottom of the page after a mix of advertising and rehashing the spec sheet:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819113347&cm_re=9590-_-19-113-347-_-Product

Not Newegg's product, just Newegg Selling it. Could they have warned better, sure. But it's up to the buyer to know what they're buying.

Using anything not as directed can constitute a fire hazard. Newegg doesn't have USE MOTHERBOARD STANDOFFS on every motherboard page, do they? Newegg isn't going to have massive warnings that the outlet on the power supplies they sell need to be grounded or it constitutes a shock hazard, does it?

It is up to the buyer to beware of what they are purchasing, Newegg nor any other site will handhold someone.
>>
>>53674500
>Could they have warned better, sure. But it's up to the buyer to know what they're buying.
Sorry, I'm used to dealing with guns and if a company sold a gun or ammo that was outside of normal spec that way they'd be flooded with lawsuits.
>>
>>53674560
AM3+ allows roughly 145 A @ 1.5V so it's a wee bit out of spec, however the TPM on the motherboard is a major factor in this and you get different TPM's for different motherboards. You get to the server grade and you need to swap the TPM for more powerful ones to power CPU's.

This is an industry where if something goes terribly wrong, usually there's a puff a smoke and alot of money burned and that's it.

If someone is set to build a computer using high end components such as this, they generally already know better to read what they're buying and do some research (like the tech equivalent of a gunsmith).

WIth a gun, it's as simple as buying the ammo and loading it. Well within the realm of anyone, not just a gunsmith, which makes your example a poor comparison. It'd be unreasonable and outright impossible to make it so that ammo can only load in those specific guns, just like it would be unreasonable and impossible to make that CPU only fit those specific motherboards.

All of AMD's 83xxx chips are just the various binnings of the 8350. The best chips are the 8320e and 8370e due to their (considerably) lower voltage. Overclock them and you can easily get 9370/9590 on considerably less voltage.

To wit: my 8320e does 4.7ghz on 1.428v (for reference a 9590's base clock is 4.7ghz and that chip wants 1.5v out of the box).

CPU wise GTA V only scales to 4 threads - as per the picture. The i7's hold a tiny lead due to their higher cache but realistically its i5 or bust for the game.
>>
>>53686283
Well it still can run on a dual core just fine with a frame limit despite the fact that the minimum specs call for a quad core, along with many other games.
A quad core cpu has been required for a long time if you want to play modern games, this doesn't mean it's unoptimized.
