>>
Only replying because of dubs...

Why do you want to move from xfce ? Other than the shit tier font rendering when using a dark theme.
>>
switched to mate tbqhwy

way more "complete" desktop experience.
besides, multi monitor support is broken on xfce

I like xfce's simple customization ability. Why change?
>>
Xfce is great.
I honestly don't know why you'd use anything else.
>>
>>53667004
what theme is that? icons numix?
>>
>>53667064
>>53666904
with what distro are you using xfce?
Is Xubuntu viable?
>>
xfce is not so great, but it is not bad either. It's the most rational choice you could made for a DE desu. Other ones are either bloated or ugly.
>>
>>53666866
I do. I like it a lot.

>What would you switch to?
KDE Plasma, if it wasn't so buggy.
>>
can anyone guide me how to install minimal xfce experience? Not the whole DE with bloat, just core stuff that makes xfce the xfce.
>>
>>53667164
>KDE Plasma, if it wasn't so buggy
ugh this

>Plasma has crashed
>>
>>53667177
>>53667164
Plasma is still not stable? Will be in near future, anyone know some news?
>>
>>53667194
5.6 with Qt 5.6 supposedly fixed multi monitor woes
>>
>>53667205
on which distros does it work the best atm?
>>
>>53667220
5.6 was released a day or two ago, so it hasn't even hit rolling release distros like Fedora

source: I just installed Fedora KDE to try it out (still on 5.5.5)
>>
>>53666866
Mate with Xfce panel.
>>
>>53666924
>multi monitor support is broken on xfce
How so?
>>
>>53667277
is it working for you? I dont have multiple monitors, just curious
>>
I am game for running anything else which runs well with 512MB RAM.

I currently use i3.
>>
>>53667277
xfce fails to recognise the user's preffered "default" display.

it will always default (and therefore put panels, icons and new windows) to the leftmost screen (the screen closer to xrandr 0,0 coords)
>>
>>53667296
I have had multiple monitors on every Xfce install I've made. Only thing that sucks are the Gtk limitations of it (primary monitor always defaults to the top leftmost, which screws up icon arrangement and such)
>>
>>53667315
That's a Gtk thing, not Xfce
>>
>>53666866
yes
gnome/kde
>>
>>53667341
Either use
>A DE which removes features because they might me "too confusing"
>A DE that crashes every 2 nano seconds
>>
What is the best way to instal bare minimal of xfce? Without bloat programs that i dont need or might install later...
I assume I need xfwm, whisker menu, what else?
>>
>>53667337
I'm fairly sure drawing the desktop is a job of a fucking window manager not the graphical toolkit.
>>
>>53667406
That doesn't explain why only KDE does a good job at it
>>
>>53667421
>does a good job at it

k
>>
>>53667432
Set folder view on one monitor
Set whatever on other monitor
Woah shit I can't believe it's fixed
>>
>>53667107
>with what distro are you using xfce?
Debian.

>Is Xubuntu viable?
No idea about Xubuntu. Although if you go digging people do say its a pretty good distro if you are coming from Windows.
>>
>>53667449

>KDE does a good job at it
I said that XFCE is garbage at it.

Gnome3 works okay.
MATE works okay.
Both of those are GTK3/2 just like xfeces.

Next time, before letting out an opinion make sure you have at least some fucking clue what you're talking about.

Fucking retards I swear to God.
>>
>>53667166
Do a netinst - but you are going to have to work for it and you'll need to know what you are doing.
>>
LXDE/LXQt master race
>>
>>53667485
I remember at least MATE having the exact same issue unless they've already fixed it since
>>
>>53667503
You're talking garbage again, mate is a fork of gnome2, multi monitor support was mint back in the days of gnome2.
>>
>>53667519
>mint
>MATE

I see what you did there
>>
>>53667501
I was actually interested in this.
Is LXDE dead and LXQt is continuation ?
Also Can I install LXQt alongisde Xfce on my Xubuntu so I can try it out?

Any distro ships LXQt? I better use it with live USB if it is available in that form rather than installing it alongside my current DE
>>
>>53667531
>Any distro ships LXQt?
Void
>>
>>53667531
>Is LXDE dead and LXQt is continuation ?
Yeah, they'd have to redo the whole thing for GTK3, so they said fuck it and merged with another DE (can't remember right now) and made LXQt
>>
>>53666866
>What would you switch to?

I wouldn't. XFCE gets me exactly what I want.

>>53667107
>xubuntu
don't. If you want pure xfce experience just install xfce4 xfce4-goodies on a plain ubuntu, or get task-xfce-desktop on debian.
>>
i3wm
>>
>>53667600
I must ask because it sounds weird to me but how come installing xfce on plain ubuntu is more "pure" than actual Xubuntu that is made with xfce in mind?
>>
>>53667600
why do you recommend that?
>>
Is is possible yet to remove "cashew" from KDE desktop?

you should really try xfce for a few days. you will never look back desu
>>
>>53667682
that pic is unity/gnome3/kde related
>>
>>53666924

mate has a shit support for touchpads
>>
>>53667600
>task-xfce-desktop

What's the difference between that and xfce4 and xfce4-goodies ?.
>>
>>53667682
I did

and I went back
>>
>>53667781
why?
>>
>>53666866
Um, what is wrong with XFCE? Aside from XFWM not being a tiling window manager? Been using XFCE for over a year. Feels comfy, man. :)
