Having a locked platform that can't run unsigned code isn't actually that secure -- it's just inconvenient. If a signed application has a bug in it that can allow arbitrary execution of code, then the entire model collapses. How do you think jailbreaking happens? Someone takes advantage of one of the many insecure applications in iOS, and uses it to install a backdoor. If a white hat hacker can use this to give freedom to iOS users, what's to say a black hat can't use the same vulnerability to install a keylogger on the device?
Do you think that the NSA can't compromise an iPad? Newsflash: they can, and it is unlikely that there will ever come a time anytime soon when they cannot. Why? Because Apple is the worst with regards to vulnerabilities. In 2015, Mac OS X had the most vulnerabilities of any software on the market, and iOS had the second most. Behind iOS was Adobe Flash. Yes, that's right. Your iPhone, which you feel makes you totally safe from the government, has more vulnerabilities than a plugin that might as well be considered a backdoor into your computer through your browser.
I know you'd all like to argue, "all these smart people use iOS, so logically it must be more secure," but this is faulty logic. Even CEOs are capable of making uninformed decisions.
The company that has countless times had its web browser compromised first in hacking competitions;
which has taken months to fix the rootpipe exploit after its discovery, only for an NSA employee to point out that the exploit was still there; which ships its desktop OS with a requirement in the EULA that it not be used in nuclear power plants; cannot be trusted with security under any circumstances.
