Is it normal that madVR's smoothmotion uses 3x less GPU resource than interpolation with display-resample?
My television or GPU (old ATI) can't handle 23,9XXX fps correctly and smoothmotion/interpolation is very great.

Feel free to try it out, but if it's the first piece of command-line software you've ever used and/or you have trouble figuring things out for yourself, you might not have a good time and you'll probably just come back here to complain. mpv has a high quality video renderer, but it's not the only video player to have one. MPC-HC with madVR is also pretty high quality. If you use Windows and prefer GUIs over the CLI, you will probably prefer MPC-HC.

No, it's not really normal. Only thing I can think of that mpv does suboptimally w.r.t interpolation is that it runs the mixing shader on every frame, even if it would be a repeat of the previous.
(This could be slightly optimized to just re-blit, at the cost of code complexity)
The gains wouldn't be big though.
