Hey /g/
Do you think we will see ram die or morph into something else in our life time?
I don't know much about ram but wonder what it's validity is with m.2 or pc is ssds as fast as they are could they be a viable replacement?
What about all that real estate on cpu's, dump the apu and just cram a shit load cache?

it depends on how lazy developers are in the future.
amd wants to integrate HBM memory into their APU so they can vastly increase the HSA capability, but this needs software to be written for it.
HBM on an APU would be neat but until it's cost effective i don't see that happening outside of a PS5.

Yes. Both Intel and HP are throwing money at FRAM and Memister technology. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Memristor Its an engineering problem at this point so it'll be solved within our life times (actually likely within the decade).
These chips means your non-volatile and volatile storage can be unified.

Thanks anon, good read. Also...
>HP prototyped a crossbar latch memory that can fit 100 gigabits in a square centimeter,[8] and proposed a scalable 3D design (consisting of up to 1000 layers or 1 petabit per cm3)
Jebus Christo, future NOW.
It probably won't be to soon. RAM is still way faster than a ssd.

Soon developers will be able to be even lazier when it comes to memory management, what a joy.
