Wondering how PCIe lanes work in this scenario -

I have an MSI Z97S Krait edition and a 4790k. This gives me 16 PCIE lanes.

I also have 2 GTX 980's running in SLI. I want to install a Samsung 950 pro NVMe SSD in the mobos M.2 slot. Since the GPUs are already running in 8x8, will adding the M.2 drive cause the GPUs to run in 8x4? And further if that is this case, would such cause a loss of GPU performance.

Is there a practical reason why you would turn off a computer to change a monitor?

I recently started working with an IT company, and on the second day, I was sent with a co-worker to change out monitors for a company. He insisted on turning off the computers to change each monitor, and I didn't really think much of it, until I realized each computer was using a slow-ass encrypted hard drive, which turned rebooting computers into a 10 minute process.

After about my second monitor, I saw no need to turn off the computer, and ended up switching out monitors in half the time.

I know it's probably not the 'proper' way of doing IT work, but my co-worker insisted on wasting time for both companies. Especially considering he claimed to have an A+ cert, I can't tell if he was just milking the company for labor, or if he's just dumb.

>Bragging about having an A+ cert
That's like bragging about having a high school diploma......

>Steve-o decided it was cooler to say "app" instead of program or application or software and all faggots followed.
wrong namefag...
more technically, any working code is a program, an application is the bundled (often executable) package. since most mobile apps are small (or truncated versions of desktop applications) 'app' is the appropriate and figurative and literal shortening (or truncated version) of 'application'.
>>
>>53653257
When using HDMI it's a good idea to turn off the monitor and the computer, because there's a charge in the cable that can cause damage to both. It almost never happens tho. I'm not aware if this is an issue using other cable types.

>>53653299
I stand corrected.
>>
>>53653299
I always sort of associated the word 'app' with 'applet', which is a small, specialized program.

Nowadays, 'app' is a generalized term, and while it might have once been valid to sperg on the semantics, anyone doing so nowadays is just asking for social repercussions.

By the way, is Intel's SSD caching still a valid technology for large hard drives?

I'm trying to get PHP to work locally.

I've installed XAMPP and thought it would be as easy as pointing my web browser towards my "htdocs" folder which is on my E:\ drive.

For some reason though "localhost" points to another folder on my C:\ drive.

I tried putting my PHP in that folder too but it won't load.

I'm sure it's something really simple that I'm missing.

Is there a way, and if so how, to make windows 8.1 selectively wake sleeping drives?

Example of what I mean. I put windows to sleep, go to wake it up, even though only the OS drive is required, it boots all 4 drives. Not a cold boot, but from sleep where there's no need to check the drives.

Another example. Let's say I have drives A, B, C, and D. I do work on A and B and throw a couple files in the trash, eventually C and D are put to sleep. I then go to empty the trash and windows wakes drives C and D, despite being empty.

I want it to stop doing that.

Copying this from earlier thread

I'm on a modified dell t1650 (500W EA-500 Bronze, GTX 960, 8 GB DDR3 RAM, 1 TB HDD + 2 SSDs).
After shutting down my computer, I tried to turn on my computer only to find the amber LED blinking in the power button. It is a series of two beeps, a pause, and another two beeps. According to the owner's manual, this means "system board failure, PSU or PSU cabling failure". I did the paperclip test on my PSU, and it's working just fine. Do I need to buy a new motherboard? The ethernet cable LED is working, I'm not sure if that's an indicator or not. Also yes, I cleared the CMOS

The M.2 slot will use a PCIe1X connection to the chipset. It won't interfere with the GPU's, however NVMe is a waste, because it's only 1X, not 2X, which will bottleneck NVMe speeds.
NVMe is designed for use with skylake, which has waaaaay more peripheral PCIe lanes.

more PCIe slots incase i decide to get multiple GPU's in the future
my current motherboard only has 2 SATA 3 and 2 SATA 2 ports, so i already have to use one of the slower ports

current mobo is mATX so it looks weird in my full ATX case, and it doesn't have USB 3.0 headers so the front USB ports on my case are useless.

Current processor is a 750K, I get that I'm not paying for a faster CPU, just getting twice the cores basically.

As a skylake i5 6500 would cost $100 more, and for game streaming I doubt it would do much better

I'm a very strong advocate of free software but I think, especially after having heard him speak in person, Stallman is nuts

Some poor kid in the audience, after donating money to the FSF, accidentally called GNU + Linux "Open Source." We sat in stunned silence as Stallman railed on the kid for several minutes.

Also I find the copyleft nature of the GPL very worrisome. I believe that truly giving people (not just software) freedom means willing to accept that the users of software may choose to do unethical things with the software.

your constructor (checkBalance(string strBalance)) wants a string as parameter.
so you need to call it with

var myString = "hello world";
var pass = new checkBalance(myString);

I've got a pirated MS Office 2016 installed. When I create new .xls file with right-click > new > microsoft excel worksheet, the order of the columns is going from right to left, ie. column A is on the rightmost side and vertical scrollbar is on the left side.
How do I change it to LTR order permanently? Right now I can change it in options but whenever I create new .xls file with the above-mentioned way, it's always back to RTL order.
I've tried googling and found this http://superuser.com/questions/378111/how-to-set-the-default-page-layout-from-rtl-to-ltr-in-excel-2010 which looked promising, but ultimately it didn't work for me at all.
I can circumvent this by opening excel with ctrl+R, which opens new blank file with LTR order. It's a tiny bit less convenient though, but in case nobody has a solution, I'll go with this way.

I have an experiment software running on a laptop. I have a script in Python/Matlab which controls the experiment, but I need it to run on a different PC. I would like the laptop image to be analyzed by the PC in real time (split second decisions) and in full resolution.

There are many ways of screen sharing over LAN, how practical this is for your use depends on just how latency sensitive it is

You could stream a screen capture using ffmpeg for example

My Mouse is starting to fuck up. Sometimes when I hold down click it'll "let go" and re-click without me taking the finger off the button.
It's annoying. Like trying to drag an icon across my desktop only for it to get dropped half-way through and the mouse to start dragging a selection box over the desktop, without me letting off the click button.

Is there a way to fix this without replacing it? I already had this fucker replaced with it's warranty and then this started up again. I can't handle going another week without a mouse again and I'm too broke to get a better one.

This solution will hopefully scale even better as I can have multiple hosted images all from different IP addresses.

So, here's my problem (I hope that it's easy to understand):

My girlfriend has a phone with two SIM card (let's call them A and B).

I can send free SMSs to card A, while she can only send free SMSs from card B.

Is there any way for me to keep the whole conversation in a single thread? I was hoping that having both numbers associated to the same contact would help, but the conversation is still split between two threads.

by the way, sorry for responding to you again here, but in the end I'm just gonna put the HDD back in the laptop, anyway, cause it'd just gather dust if left outside it, y'know.... and the space from the missing HDD would gather dust too unless I put the cover on it, and I wouldn't trust the cover's not being lost unless I screwed it in place, but at that point I may as wel put the dead HDD back in...

it's just altogether way too awkward in hindsight to keep the HDD out of the laptop, unless I was getting the replacement HDD in hours or smth, but it's coming in a few days, so...

The difference between IPS and TN is color quality, and viewing angles advantage, where the IPS is better of course, but that's not important for gaming. TN does usually have much better response times, which is important for gaming, but some 1440p IPS monitors have great response times as well.

A lot of my job is monotonous routine that I feel could be fairly easily automated.

How hard is it to write a script or something that accomplishes this (I could dedicate a workstation for just this):

1. Receives e-mail in Outlook
2. Outlook has .txt attachment (a comma-separated list)
3. Save attachment to Directory X
4. Company database has an import function for these .txt files, so after saving the attachment, have the workstation execute "File -> Import from File -> Select the saved attachment -> Import File"

This seems pretty mundane, but I don't actually have any clue how to do something like this? Is there a deskwork automation application I can use, where you can set the triggers and steps? If not that seems like a useful tool to exist.

>>

Are you working with an Exchange server?

I've got examples I could post of querying EWS for a mailbox's contents and getting information/attachments from the filtered emails.

I wrote a utility that sits on a server and looks for particular emails and if it finds them, it mails admins and restarts a service. Your request shouldn't be too difficult.

By querying EWS instead of your local files, the utility could be anywhere on the Active Directory domain, if you're using all that.

Can you use one of those Chinese USB to DC 12V converters to power an ADSL modem? I can power my wifi router using an USB port just fine, but my modem needs at least 7.5V
>>
>>53659998
Then you'd be parsing the data from the Office 365 APIs. There are example projects up for C# applications that you could scavenge code from for a simple command line utility.

Here's an example method for loading mail:
https://github.com/OfficeDev/O365-Windows-Start/blob/master/Office365StarterProject/ViewModels/MailViewModel.cs#L228

Then you just use the mail object to filter your results and retrieve the attachment.

From there, its basic file I/O.

I'm not really sure how to help you out with this other than writing it for you, but I don't have a 365 account to test my code against, and obviously, you're not going to give some random anon on 4chan access.

tl;dr:
>It's pretty easy to do, but you need to know some C# to do it. (Also possible in other languages, I'm sure.)

I'm shopping for surge protectors and I keep seeing products with Ethernet, phone, and coaxial ports. Is there a remote possibility that these will be necessary? If that possibility occurs, will these products actually work and mitigate the damage?

Just a meme unless you live in the middle of fucking nowhere. In a larger city you can have all your electronics plugged in 24/7 and just laugh during lightning storms at all the hillbillies who have to turn off their electricity unless they want their house set on fire.

Yes, you can telnet to computers outside your subnet.
No, you cannot telnet to hosts with private IP addressess behind a NAT outside your local network.

Your target of malicious abuse, which I assume it is since you are asking this shit, would need to go to his router and forward the ports himself or set up a DMZ.
Probably won't happen ever.
