Yeah it is. The phone simply is not worth it, while you use it every day and so, you are paying like $500 just for the logo. It's a good phone but it's not worth $1000.
You pay top dollar for something, that shares most of its specs with a $500-600 phone. Apps don't utilize full capabilities of the phone, you don't get added performance. You don't get a better battery, it still barely lasts for a day. You get a mediocre camera, that gets beaten by the cheapest point-and-shoot pocket cameras. Whatever you do get, it's not worth a grand. It's not even worth $700.
Apple is progressively making it's OS worse by every update. After a long line of iPhones, I decided to go with android because Apple was doing such a garbage job with the iPhone. I don't regret it at all.
Get an LG G5. It's as simple as that.

You're better off buying a xiaomi mi5, which is less than half the price and not only better than the Galaxy s7, but also the 6s.
How much money is worth to you depends on how much you make per hour. You need that in addition to expected lifespan before you can make a judgment call like this.
Some output for the value of $1000 to you divided out over 5 years may or may not sound reasonable. I tend to re-up my carrier contract and take a subsidy on the phone because I'm grandfathered into an unlimited data plan (for what little that's worth these days) and I'm sufficiently sure that I'm not going to want to change carriers in the next two years anyway.
But don't buy an iPhone 6S plus now, OP. Apple announced them almost a year ago, and didn't announce the 7 at this last event; they're going to announce the iPhone 7 in a few months, and you're going to be stuck with a phone that's already a generation old just a few months after buying it.
Think of buying a phone like riding a wave. You want to get on just after a new breaks and it's made clear that there are no severe design flaws. If you don't care about having the latest and greatest, then do yourself a huge favor and buy a 6 or 6 plus; it'll be cheaper because Apple values it less, but you'll still get most of the features.
