Why the fuck are you guys using an OS built on top of a mainframe kernel from the early 90s on your desktop computer in 2016?
>>
>>53649464
Why the fuck is the world's most successful -most widely used, most *time* spent with it- personal operating system running on it?

Because Linux is fucking great, that's why!

I use Apple.
>>
It's 2016 and I'm indeed asking myself why I'm still using Linux. It went to shit in recent years. Sadly I haven't seen an alternative worthy my time. So yeah, that's why.
>>
It's fun to develop on
>>

>>
>>53649464

Oh what, you mean just like all other operating systems, you double nigger?
>>
I use OS X and Windows too but I like GNU/Linux the most because of the unparalleled customizability.

Windows 95/98, (n): 32 bit extension and a graphical shell for a 16 bit patch to an 8 bit operating system originally coded for a 4 bit microprossessor, written by a 2 bit company that can't stand 1 bit of competition.

I really struggle to se myself using an OS without a built-in package manager.
>>
>>53649464
We're not. Linux 1.0 was released in 1994. https://packages.debian.org/jessie/linux-image-3.16.0-4-amd64

Linux has taken the world in the form of Android on the end user side. Not Gnu/Linux. 70% are too stupid and another 29% are too lazy to deal with something like it.

Gnu/Linux is the server OS powering most of the other end.

As for the remaining ~1% of desktop users, obviously Linux is great for them because it has an amazing set of features to work with.
>>
Why the fuck are you using an OS built on top of an insecure pile of shit glorified program launcher from the 80s on your desktop computer in 2016?

>he actually thinks something built for powerful computers is bad for his modern computer
Windows trolls are the dumbest fucking shits ever.

Why are you using an OS built on top of a 80's DOS based on CP/M?

What in the world makes you think Linux is the most widely used OS?
>>
>>53652763
Linux is the most widely used kernel today if you include all kinds of computers.
>>
>>53652763
Servers.

OS built on top of a server/mainframe kernel (NT, basically a VMS clone in many respects)
>HomO SeX
Same, based on NeXTstep

>AmigaOS, BeOS, DOS, other crippled and dead shit
Finally, dedicated, desktop-only systems!

"Server systems" are actually systems that are secure, stable, capable, and performant, because home PCs don't need to be these things. That's why everyone started using server-grade software everywhere. Because, you know, it turned out home PCs needed to be those things.
